Kali lay in bed, the soft glow of the moonlight filtering through the curtains, casting a serene light across her room. Yet, despite the tranquility of the night, her mind was a storm of emotions. She had spent the drive home from the lookout tower in a haze, replaying the conversation with Cole over and over in her head. The excitement that had sparked within her moments ago had been extinguished by the weight of his words “I just want to be friends.” The tears had come unbidden as she parked her car, and she had cried all the way to her room, her heart aching with a mixture of loss and confusion. She felt the familiar pang of rejection, a feeling she thought she had left behind in her teenage years. Kali had hoped for a fresh start, a new chapter with Cole, but instead, she was left grappling with the reality of their situation. As Kali drifted off to sleep. Her dad was working nights this week, her mom had gone to a concert that evening. Camerson was his football game and Dela was at the game as well then they were headed to a party. Luke and Shayna were both at their friends' houses. leaving her alone with her thoughts. She had tried to distract herself with a movie, but it had only served as a reminder of her solitude. The clock on her bedside table ticked steadily, each second a reminder of the time slipping away, and the uncertainty of her future. Kali rolled onto her side, pulling the covers closer around her. She could feel the weight of her pregnancy pressing down on her, both physically and emotionally. The baby was a constant reminder of the choices she had made, and while she felt a deep connection to the life growing inside her, the fear of raising a child alone loomed large. Kali was deep asleep when all of a sudden Kali felt liquid like she was peeing but it would stop she tried to telapot but was in too much pain with a sudden jolt of discomfort shot through her. She sat up abruptly, trying to get to the bathroom as fast as she could, her heart racing. Was it just a cramp? She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself, but the sensation returned, more intense this time. her mind racing. Could this be it? Could she be going into labor? The thought sent a wave of panic through her. She glanced at the clock midnight. And everyone was still out, and she was alone. As Kali was, hoping that a splash of cold water on her face would help clear her mind. But as she stood in front of the mirror, another wave of discomfort hit her, and she gasped, gripping the edge of the sink for support. “No, no, no,” she whispered to herself, trying to steady her breathing. This wasn’t how she had imagined it. She had envisioned a calm, serene moment when she would welcome her child into the world, not a frantic dash through the house in the middle of the night. Kali took a moment to gather her thoughts. She needed to call someone, but who? Cole was out of the question, especially after their conversation. She couldn’t bear the thought of him being the first person she reached out to in such a vulnerable moment. Her mind raced through her options until it landed on Missi, her sister and best friend and confidante. She hurried back to her room, fumbling for her phone on the bedside table. Her fingers trembled as she dialed Missi's number, praying that she would answer. The phone rang, each tone echoing in the stillness of the house, and with every ring, her anxiety grew. “Come on, Missi, pick up,” she urged under her breath, the discomfort intensifying. Just as she was about to hang up, she heard her friend’s groggy voice on the line. “Kali? Is everything okay?” Missi sounded half-asleep, and Kali felt a pang of guilt for waking her. “No, it’s not okay,” Kali replied, her voice shaky. “I think I’m in labor and idk why but i cant teleport.” “What? Oh my God, are you serious?” Missi’s tone shifted instantly, her sleepiness replaced by concern. “Where are you? I’ll be right there!” “I’m at home. Everyone is still out, and I don’t know what to do!” Kali’s voice cracked, fear creeping in as another wave of discomfort washed over her. “Just breathe, okay? I’m on my way. Try to stay calm. I’ll be there as fast as I can,” Missi reassured her, her voice steady and calming. Kali hung up, her heart racing. She needed to prepare, but what could she possibly do? She took a deep breath, trying to focus. She had read countless articles and watched videos about labor, but now that it was happening to her, everything felt overwhelming. She grabbed a small bag she had packed earlier, just in case, and tossed in a few last-minute items her phone charger, a change of clothes, and a pair of socks. The discomfort was becoming more frequent, and she knew she had to move quickly. Kali glanced at the clock again; it felt like time was both crawling and racing at the same time. She moved to the door, her heart pounding as she opened it, stepping into the hallway. The house felt eerily quiet, and she couldn’t shake the feeling of isolation. Just as she reached the bottom of the stairs, another wave of discomfort hit her, more intense than before. She gripped the banister, closing her eyes as she tried to breathe through it. “You can do this,” she whispered to herself, drawing on every ounce of strength she had. Moments later, Missi appeared thankful she teleported. Relief washed over her as she seen Missi. Kali rushed to her. her heart racing with anticipation. She opened it just as Missi was stepping onto the porch, her face a mixture of concern and determination. “Kali!” Missi exclaimed, rushing inside. “Are you okay? How far apart are the contractions?” “I don’t know,” Kali admitted, her voice shaky. “They’re coming pretty quickly, though.” “Okay, let’s get you to the hospital,” Missi said, her tone all business now. She quickly assessed the situation, her eyes scanning the room as if calculating the best course of action. “Do you have everything you need?” Kali nodded, her heart racing as she grabbed her bag. “I think so. I just... I didn’t think it would happen like this.” “None of us do,” Missi replied, her voice steady. “But you’re not alone. I’m here, and we’re going to get through this together.” Kali felt a surge of gratitude. Missi’s presence was a comforting anchor amidst the storm of emotions swirling within her. “Thank you for coming,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. “Always,” Missi replied, squeezing her hand reassuringly. “Now let’s get you to the hospital” as they teleported to the hospital as they appeared in the lobby of the er startling Nathan and Aiden. Missi told them what was going on and Nathan ran and got a wheel chair while chad call ob and got Kali checking in as fast as he could and nathan rushed her to the 2nd floor where ob was and the nurse was Sophia Moore.
