Chapter_30: The Curse

Johnathan came out of the diner and looked at Raven. She was frantically looking around for something. An old car pulled up right in front of them-through the half open window, Johnathan could see the familiar face of Brother Farid- he sat in the backseat smoking a pipe. He signaled them to get in the car-they got in and drove away.   “What just happened-“asked Johnathan clueless about what was going on.   “Is he still here?” asked Raven to Farid completely ignoring Johnathan’s question.   “Who?” inquired Johnathan.   “No-I can’t sense him nearby but that doesn’t mean he’s gone- we better get to my shop as quickly as possible!” replied Farid showing a sense of urgency.   “Will somebody tell me what is going on?” asked Johnathan frustrated at being ignored.   “Things just turned bad for you my friend- you were cursed to die in there-“replied Farid.   “Cursed by who?” he asked.   Farid looked at Raven and then looked at him-   “The Darkness has just levelled up- we need you to focus on levelling you up as well- you’re strong now and your powers have awakened but you still need to learn to control them-“he said.   “A new player just entered the game and it’s neither a monster or a demon-“he added.   “Then who is he?”asked Johnathan with perplexing eyes.   “A Watcher-“replied Farid.   “What’s that?”he asked again.   “Let’s get inside first- it’s not safe to talk or even utter its name here-“he replied seeing that they had almost reached his refuge-“The Lucky Shop”   Fifteen minutes later, they were all inside sitting comfortably having tea.   “So who’s this Watcher and what does it want from me?”asked Johnathan sipping his tea.   “It wants to end you-You’re or you will be the most powerful being on earth which he cannot have. The Darkness has awoken it and released it free upon the earth and its hungry for vengeance-“replied Farid like a wise old man.   “Vengeance for what?” he asked putting down his cup.   “For being imprisoned for thousands of earth-“he replied.   “Let me explain-When God built the earth, he built man in his own image and then he made the angels- the watchers-they were called. Their sole job was to watch the humans and guide them but the Watchers were tempted and some of them fornicated with human women and as a result the Nephilim were born. To rid the earth of these unnatural beings, He brought the great flood and wiped the abominations from the face of the earth...” “So he’s an Angel? Like a – like a- son of God with wings from heaven like Angel?”Johnathan asked.   “Technically yes-but fallen from His grace-look here-read this-“said Farid handing him an old book and opening a page.   Johnathan read through the text with utmost curiosity-   When the sons of men had multiplied, in those days, beautiful and comely daughters were born to them. And the watchers, the sons of heaven, saw them and desired them. And they said to one another, “Come, let us choose for ourselves wives from the daughters of men, and let us beget children for ourselves.” These and all the others with them took for themselves wives from among them such as they chose. And they began to go in to them, and to defile themselves through them, and to teach them sorcery and charms, and to reveal to them the cutting of roots and plants.   And they conceived from them and bore to them great giants. And the giants begot Nephilim, and to the Nephilim were born Elioud. And they were growing in accordance with their greatness. Then the Most High declared, and the Great Holy One spoke.   And he sent Sariel to the son of Lamech, saying, “Go to Noah and say to him in my name, ‘Hide yourself.’ And reveal to him that the end is coming, that the whole earth will perish; and tell him that a deluge is about to come on the whole earth and destroy everything on the earth. Teach the righteous one what he should do, the son of Lamech how he may preserve himself alive and escape forever” (from The Book of Enoch- The Watchers)     Johnathan finished reading the page and touched his forehead- “How the hell am I going to fight such a powerful being?”he asked looking at Farid.   “In your current level – you can hardly kill a vengeful spirit, but if you train for a few days with me-then you might stand a chance-“replied Farid scratching his scanty beard.   “Uh-might? You mean I could die?”asked Johnathan.   “Eh- let’s not get ahead of ourselves- from now on you stay here and train with me-“replied Farid.   “What? God I hate this job- first demons and monsters and now even Angels are after me?” he got up in frustration and went out of  the room.   Brother Farid went after him smoking his pipe. Johnathan stood inside the shop staring at the various antiquities in the shelves- some were broken but Farid had done a good job in restoring the shop after the explosion. His eyes suddenly fell upon an old painting depicting an angel with his sword fighting another angel.   “That’s the archangel Michael fighting Lucifer-“ said Farid from behind.   “I don’t understand all these texts-these legends and myths- Why do they have to fight? They are all sons of god- why disobey Him? I used to wonder if these things actually happened-and now one of them is actually after me-huh!” remarked Johnathan brooding over the painting.   “My friend- without these myths and legends, the world would have been so boring- regardless of what you believe or don’t, things that are supposed to exist, will exist-we are too naïve to understand God’s mysteries-“replied Farid letting out the smoke from his pipe.
