Chapter_31: Shemyaza

On top of the highest tower in the city, stood a tall and muscular figure, staring at the horizon. His golden flock of hair swayed in the morning breeze. He wore a silk white shirt and black trousers, his face radiant with divine energy, his blue eyes shone like stars in the midnight sky. He gazed and wondered with curiosity and said to himself- “What has happened to the world? So much chaos and destruction everywhere-the noise-Ah! It’s unbearable-“ Suddenly he jumped from the tower and let himself fall to towards the ground which was no less than 120 meters below. As he reached halfway, he threw open his giant wings that span five meters on either side and let himself glide through the air. There were many people below- humans-going about their daily lives, but he was invisible to them- he could choose who could or could not see him. As he almost reached the ground, he closed his wings back and landed on the ground outside a park. His bare feet touched the asphalt road and he felt the burning heat of the sun on his white skin. It has been over a thousand years that he had felt nature and it's beauty but he didn't remember it being this intense. The air was heavy with pollutants, the sun was hotter, the greenery was gone and all he could see were strange buildings that he thought were houses. He walked a few steps around the park and watched the people dressed in the same strange clothes that he was dressed- he understood that the times had really changed since the great flood. Minutes later he thought of his mission to take down the most powerful being on earth and rule the world. The darkness had spewed him out of the pits but he won't do it's bidding. He knew that in this broken world there won't be any kind of divine interference to stop him from conquering the earth. He could take care of the darkside after he killed the one they called the Guardian. He had already cast a spell on him the moment he reached earth to let him know that he had arrived. But he had to find him now and for that he needed help- human help. He put his hand in his pocket and took out a piece of paper- Watchmaker- it read- this was the address of the person who was supposed to help him find the Guardian... Johnathan was reading an old book on the angels in the Lucky Shop when Farid came in with another cup of tea. He placed the cup in front of him and sat down on the chair- "So this angel-" said Johnathan "tell me more about him-" "He's a master of magic and spells- in fact he taught the early humans about the magical arts. There's no limit to what he could conjure and he's as you can imagine- very powerful-" replied Farid. "What's his name?" he asked. "It is forbidden to utter his name lest he hears it- but I will write it down for you- fo not read it aloud-" warned Farid and scribbled something on a piece of paper. Johnathan took the paper and read it quietly- "SHEMYAZA"- it read. "Strange name- tell me one thing- what really happened to me at the diner? Raven said that I was cursed?" he asked. "Like I said- he's a magician- so he must have cast some kind of long distance spell to check how powerful you are and let you know about his arrival- don't worry it was just a harmless spell meant to intimidate you-" replied Farid. "But I'm not his enemy- we are on the same side-" said Johnathan. "He's an angel of the lord, do you think he cares about sides? Angels smite first and ask questions later...Our world is reckless and there's no divine power watching over it- nit like the ancient times- and this emptiness is what he craves- come to think of it maybe he wants to be the new God!" replied Farid wisely. "That's crazy- and I'm supposed to stop him?"said Johnathan. "Don't undermine yourself- you have mysterious strengths and powers and you've just scratched the surface now- who knows what lies beyond! Every Guardian is different and unique and the path he chooses must be his own- we can only show you the path- the rest is up to you..." replied Farid. "So when do we start training?"said Johnathan taking a deep breath. "You already are training- the first step is to gain knowledge- these books will help you understand all about the Angels and their myth- after you've finished them, I'll show you the next step- so r******w- there's plenty of tea and nobody will bother you here!" said Farid and left the room. Johnathan looked at the pile of books around him and nodded his head in disbelief. Three hours later- Farid came in with another cup of tea. "No more tea please-" said Johnathan reading his book. Farid went back out with the cup of tea. Shemyaza flew over the city towards the place where the watchmaker lived. As he looked down below, he saw cars and trucks and various noisy vehicles that carried humans in them. He saw people working, chatting, arguing and fighting. He was disappointed with what the world had become and how people had used the gifts that he along with his fellow watchers had bestowed upon them. "They've used the gifts to destroy themselves and nature- how foolish and arrogant have they become-" he thought as he flew across the skies. He began to pass over a narrow backstreet alley and he noticed something. A young woman, barely dressed in proper clothing according to him was heckled by three men- they were touching her inappropriately and were being really rude- not the kind of behaviour he would tolerate. So he flew down and landed a few feet away from them and made himself visible- his wings disappeared. The men didn't notice him walking up from behind and continued to torment the woman. "Where's your chivalry you monkeys?"his baritone voice echoed. The men turned around and saw this handsome and ridiculously charming man in his late 30s walking up to them and for a moment they were dumbfounded. "Is this the way to behave with a woman you primitive apes?"he said now standing three feet away from them. The men laughed- "You got a death wish you pompous son of a gun? You know who we are?" said one of them trying to intimidate him. "Apes!" he replied, "you are nothing but mannerless apes!" "What did you just say?Hey you hear this fool? Let's show him who we are-" said another and placed his hand on his shirt collar. Shemyaza had enough of this- it was the first time any human had laid a hand on him- let alone talk to him in such a manner. He was enraged and slapped the man so hard that his neck broke and his head twisted towards his back- he collapsed and died within a second. The other man saw this and trembled with fear. The girl screamed in terror. The remaining two took out their knives and came at him, but he snapped his fingers and immediately set them on fire! They died painfully screaming in agony. The girl backed off in a corner and began to tremble with fear. Shemyaza walked towards her slowly. She fell in her knees and begged for mercy- "Please don't hurt me- please- " she cried. "You poor thing- look at what they made you-come with me and be at peace-" he said and touched her forehead. A soft white light glowed on her forehead and the girl immediately stopped crying. She felt peace and calm and smiled at him. "From now on, you're free- follow me as I take down this evil world-" he said and started to walk away. The girl stood up and began to follow him quietly, spellbound and totally devoted to him- she felt as if God himself has touched her!
