Chapter 4

Walking into the school there were people standing at my locker talking blocking the way.

"Excuse me". I said and they continued to talk.

"Yo move out the way". I said causing them to look over at me.

"I'd watch what I say I wouldn't want you to end up like your parents". One of the guys said and I blacked out after that.

"Yo get off him". I heard people yelling but I continued to swing.

"KAIRO STOP IT". I heard Oaklynn yell and I instantly stopped.

Looking over at her as I breathe heavily she held a look of disappointment.

Smacking my lips I snatch my backpack off the floor and walk out of the school. As I was walking I see a park so I walk over and take a seat.

Looking out I see kids running around smiling causing me to smile a little.

"What was all that about". I heard someone say and I look over to see Oaklynn taking a seat beside me.

"They said some s**t about my folks". I said looking back over at the kids.

"What happened to them if you don't mind me asking". She said and I look down before looking over at her.

"They was in some s**t I don't know what but it got them killed I was 8 years old at the time". I said and she grabbed my hand giving it a squeeze.

"They made me and my pops watch as they r***d my moms and then they killed them". I said blowing out a deep breath as my eyes started to water.

"I couldn't do s**t to help them and sometimes I can still hear my mother crying out for my dad as it happened". I said dropping my head and that's when the tears fell.

"Hey look at me it wasn't your fault". She said grabbing my face making me look at her.

"It is I could've done something". I said and she shook her head.

"There was nothing you could do Kairo". She said as her eyes started to water.

"Why couldn't I just man up". I ask myself with a sigh.

"You were 8 years old Kairo what could you have possibly done". She said and I shook my head.

She pulled me bringing me into hug and I just cried.

"It's okay I'm here for you". She said rubbing the back of head.

After a few minutes I sit up and she wipes my face smiling at me.

"I have to get back to school before they call my parents but I'll call you". She said rubbing my cheek with a small smile.

Standing up she waved at me before walking away.

Walking into the school I was snatched off to the side.

"What the hell". I ask looking up to see an angry Jerome.

Feeling a stinging sensation on my cheek I hold it looking at him in disbelief.

"Stop talking to that nigga I've told you time and time again".He said before walking away.

Getting myself together I walk back into the hallway and Yara walks over to me.

"Hey girl you okay". She asked looking at me with concern.

"He slapped me". I said and she grabbed my arm making us stop walking as kids walked around us.

"He who". She asked looking over my face to see if she could see anything.

"Jerome". I said still in disbelief.

"Oh hell no come on". She said grabbing my hand dragging me behind her.

Looking around I spot Jerome leaning against the lockers talking to some of his friends.

"Apologize right now b***h". Yara said with a mug on her face.

"Man get the f**k out of my face". He said putting his hand in her face and I smacked it down.

"Don't disrespect her". I said mugging him and he laughed looking off before getting serious.

"Keep on and I got something for yo ass". He said mugging me.

"Bestfriend slap his ass". Yara said and I did exactly that.

It was so hard everybody in the hallway stopped what they were doing.

"b***h". He yelled trying to grab me but his friends stopped him.

"Yo chill out". One of his friends said as I stared at him.

"Yeah b***h". Yara said before pulling me away.

"You're done with that nigga". She said and I nod agreeing with her as we walked in class.

Taking a seat she started talking but my mind drifted off to Kairo and what he told me today.

"Did you hear what I said boo". She asked and I nodded.

"Okay cool I'll be over tomorrow". She said and I just nod again.

I hope he's doing okay...
