Alice POV:
.
I opened my eyes, everything was blurry.
It took me some minutes to see everything clearly, my head was aching and my mind spinning…
I wondered what happened. The last thing I remember was the meeting, dad, Liam, King Conri…
King…the usurper. I opened my eyes widely and stood up at once. I looked around and I was inside a cell.
“Hello? King Conri? Are you there?” I asked, hoping to hear something, a sigh, a voice…nothing.
It was hard to breathe properly. Where was I?
I glanced at my body and I saw my hands were cuffed by some chains on the floor.
“Hope? Are you there?” I asked in my mind.
“Yes, but I’m tired and I feel weak, maybe the oxygen is different here” she said, panting.
“Please, don’t fail on me now, we need to be strong and we have to stick together” I told her back and she nodded her snout.
At least she was with me. I waved my finger and the cuffs unlocked themselves from both my hands and I got rid of them.
That was too easy. What’s happening? A trap?
I unlocked the cell’s door by waving my finger and I could make my way out. The place was huge and I passed through every cell looking for King Conri. I saw a door at the end of the hall and another door on the side wall of the hall, near to the main door.
I tried to open it and it was locked. I waved my finger and unlocked it. I opened it very slowly and I saw him, it might be him, he smelled like us, a little different and more royal, but it was definitely him. He was hurt, bleeding and restrained by chains and cuffs, bracelets and looked like he was unconscious laying on a dirty bed. His hair was long and messy. So was his beard. My heart clenched.
I got closer and waved my hand, the bracelets and cuffs unlocked and fell off him.
“Oh no King Conri, what the hell did they do to you?” I asked and his eyes opened wide and he stood up in a jolt, startling me, and he lifted me up by my neck against the wall.
“What the hell do you want from me? You were pretty stupid in taking off the only things that were holding my powers back” he shouted, and I barely couldn't say any words.
“Ki…ng Con…ri, I’m he…re to he…lp” I tried to say, but it sounded more like I was babbling. He sniffed me in an animalistic way and put me down, but his hand was still holding my neck tight in reassurance for him.
“I came here to help you, I’m Alpha Randall’s daughter, please, I’ve come all the way here to rescue you from them” I tried to reason, patiently, even though I almost died, he might be in trauma and I didn’t want to look like a threat to him.
“I don’t believe you, I’ve been here for decades, I’ve been tortured, beaten, burnt and cut with silver, they blocked my powers and my Lycan and now someone simply came out of nowhere to help? Where were you when I needed the most? Where’s my army? Nobody is looking for me. Cut the crap out if you don’t want me to break your neck, I’ve had enough. You didn’t kill me, you never asked for anything, just kept torturing me for pure fun and now what?” he said, enraged through gritted teeth, and I couldn’t hold back the tears that were falling nonstop from my face.
He’s been through a lot already. No one deserves to be hurt over anything.
Of course, he was having a hard time believing it after so many things he'd been through and he said he was a Lycan? Oh Goddess.
After he saw my tears, his frowning face relaxed and his hands on my neck also weakened.
“You’re crying…” he whispered, and his weakened body slid down the floor and started to sob as well.
I couldn’t help but hug him. Maybe that was what he needed that time, a friendly hug after all the pain he'd been through.
He knew I wouldn’t hurt him, he was way stronger than me even after decades of pain.
He crawled to the corner of his cell, escaping my hug and his elbow placed on his knees and his hands on his head in disbelief that someone actually was there for him. I got it as a signal that he didn't want to be touched.
Of course, what awful things they must have done to him?
“I’m so sorry for everything you’ve been through, King Conri” I said, and I started to explain everything to him that happened, my mother, my father, the usurper, my mate and how I ended up there.
He looked at me, trying to catch on to everything I said, and he looked back away trying to think. I felt so bad for him. I would protect him from now on, but then I had to ask about his Lycan.
“Y…you said you had a Lycan?” I asked him and he looked back at me and just nodded.
He looked tired like the last ounce of energy he had was vanishing away from his body. He spent his last adrenaline rush on me.
I heard someone opening the door and I saw the usurper.
I was so enraged by this situation, I stood up and stared at him. King Conri tried to get up but his legs were weak and he started to tremble his way up and fell down on his butt on the bed, at least he didn't slam into the floor again.
“Don’t worry King Conri, I’ll make sure nobody will ever touch a strand of your hair to hurt you again”, I said, with determination.
I could feel my rage burning all over my body.
But before I could even do anything, I heard a loud punch and the usurper fell down on his face on the floor.
“Liam”, I ran to him and jumped in his arms. “ That was fast. How did you know where I was?”
“Werloth found the stick they hit your head with and tracked you” he said, hugging me tightly.
“Dad”, I also hugged him.
“Please, we have to take King Conri to a safe place right now, he’s been through a lot” I said, almost sobbing.
“King Conri”, my dad bowed to him and helped him to stand up.
“Randall, is it really you? You also came for me” Conri said. He was feeling dizzy, his voice was not louder than a whisper.
“Alice, please, take your father and King Conri straight to my castle, into the healing room. I’ll ask Philip to send some fae healers to check on him”, King Atlas told me.
I wanted to stay with them but I was very worried about King Conri’s condition. I nodded and Liam winked at me in approval.
I touched them and flashed us to the same place where I found out I was pregnant.
My dad laid King Conri on a bed. He looked relaxed now and in a few minutes a healer came and put her hand on Conri’s forehead and her hands were shining. He fell asleep and his swollen face got better.
“I’m so sorry for everything you’ve been through, everything is fine now, Your Highness” the healer said, looking at Conri with a painful face.
“Maybe we could use some wolf doctor to have a better look at him? He’s fine now but he’s kind of traumatized, plus he had some nails from his right hand and toes missing, they really wanted to make him suffer” she continued, gulping hard.
“Oh Goddess…Dad, please, stay here for a moment looking after him” I said in between tears and sobs as he nodded and I flashed to our pack’s clinic. I was so glad to see her checking something in her notebook.
“Doctor Susan, I’m so glad you’re here, please, we need your help, it’s an emergency” I said like I was panicking and maybe I was indeed.
I was so worried and I can’t imagine what else awful things they did to Conri. She looked at me and put her glasses down, she was wearing a black cap. I didn’t even know why she was wearing it; wolves don’t have eye problems and it was night. Maybe she wanted to look cool? I had no idea, but I kind of liked it.
“Pup, what happened? And how did you get here?” she asked me and I just touched her and flashed us back to where King Conri was.
Her eyes opened wide as she startled.
“That was some crazy s**t, Alice. You just flashed me” she said.
“I’m so sorry, I panicked. Look, we found the real King Conri and we need you to examine him”, I said and she frowned, she didn't even know about the usurper king, but she also didn’t wait any further to start.
As she was checking on him, she took something from her white medical coat’s pocket and opened Conri’s eyes and used a medical pen light. I told her everything that happened.
She finished examining every inch of him and she was pale and almost dizzy. She sat on a chair waiting for me to finish.
“Goddess and I thought my life was hard because I couldn’t sleep properly” she said with a grin. I really like to talk to her. She always enlightened every gloomy mood but she looked down for a moment and then she glanced at me again.
“King Conri is fine now. I’ll bring some medicine that will make his lost claws grow back in a few days, some antibiotics, detoxify coal medicine. Also, the cuts and wounds will heal eventually in a few days. It would be momentous if it wasn’t made out of silver and probably wolfbane when he was in such precarious conditions, but above it all, he'll need good people and friends around him.
I know he never had many friends, but he’s been through a lot. Not even a king could stand 2 decades of pain without going insane. Maybe he really is special, his pupils are normal and his gaze could follow the light of the medical flashlight perfectly even unconscious” she said, trying to remain professionally expressionless, but she had that sad glow in her eyes and my dad couldn’t help some stray tears that insisted on falling on his face and he also stiffed.
“Thank you so much Dr Susan” I said.
“Yes, thank you” my dad also said and made the doctor startled.
“All right, that was unexpected” she said and we chuckled. “ Let me also check you, pup, you said you'd been hit on the head.”
I nodded and she checked on my head and she frowned.
“Wow Alice, I can see some dried blood on your hair but I couldn’t see any wound, that means you have already healed. That was pretty fast. For how many hours have you been out?” she asked me.
“I don’t know”. I turned to my dad. “Dad, how long did you take to get there?” I asked him.
“I don’t know, maybe 20 minutes…” he replied.
“Then that’s pretty much about it” I told her and she gasped.
“Alice, you’re a kick-ass pup, you’re very strong, I hope you give Liam a good time in bed with all the pump-pump because you, pup, are one in a million, you heal fast, you’re strong and tireless it seems” she said and that earnt a growl from my dad.
“Oops, sorry grumpy Alpha” she said, winking at him and my dad rolled his eyes. I grinned in response.
“What I’m trying to say is that maybe you found it all easy because they didn’t expect you’d be awake in such a short period of time” she said, mentioning what I told her earlier.
They couldn’t even block my magic or my wolf when I was there.
“Think about it; you showed up in the meeting room. Obviously, they weren't expecting that, they had no time to act properly, they weren’t ready. But they also couldn’t take any chances of letting you go. They didn’t know the extension of your powers. Maybe they had you locked up and they went to prepare all the things they need to keep you a hostage the way they wanted to” she said, and both me and my dad were thinking about it.
It made a lot of sense, but then something else came to my mind.
“You’re absolutely right, I’m so glad we have a rational mind around us during those hard times that we can’t think straight. Thank you Dr Susan. There’s also something that has come into my mind now and I think you’re the best person to think about it and help us to reach a rational answer. When the Kings were interrogating Patsy, she said that she made all the mess in the Black Moon Pack, that’s why I’d been caught. She said it was to force me to unblock my powers, but they had me blocking my powers and even Hope unreachable because of a bracelet, what does that mean?” I asked her and she frowned again.
“Maybe the guards didn’t exactly care about what she ordered. Your dad did right by getting rid of them. There’s no chance for betrayals in our pack, pup. If they can’t obey their Alpha’s order, they won’t obey a witch’s order but only take advantage of it” she said, and my dad had a frowning face but he soon relaxed after Dr Susan words.
“You know Susan, you’re really the best doctor in all over the realms” my dad said and she smiled at him.
“I know, Alpha…I know” she grinned and we stayed like that until the Kings flashed to where we were.
.
Liam POV:
We turned the place upside down and found nothing, not even a single clue or hint of anything.
It’s like no one has ever been there at all. What does that supposed to mean?
We tried to track them but nothing. The usurper was still unconscious.
We flashed to Atlante’s castle and the usurper got quickly locked into the dungeon and Atlantes made sure to cast a lot of spells to prevent him from running away or even trying something reckless.
When we made our way to the Healing Room, we found my beloved Alice, Dr Susan, Randall, a Fae healer and an unconscious Conri.
Dr Susan and the Healer told us about Conri’s condition and, needless to say, we all felt bad for him and if I was hesitant about joining the Kings to end with the Sixforce group before, that was the impulse I needed to dedicate myself completely to this cause.
Atlantes sat on the chair looking down, Werloth, for the first time, had a gloomy look, Philip’s face was tense with his jaws stiffed and I couldn’t help but hold Alice in my arms to calm myself.
“I’ll flash with Dr Susan to bring some medicine for him. We all need to take care of him and protect him. Did you guys know he was a Lycan?” Alice asked and we all nodded, even her dad.
“His father was Lycan, Princess. Lycans are strong and royal here, but some of them can be pretty ruthless in another dimension on the Earth. Some young wolves don’t know that because they never really saw King Conri shifting. The last time he shifted in front of people was in the war. He wanted to be seen as an equal, so no one ever talked about it. He truly is a great leader, so I just can’t believe he’s been through a lot of unbearable things for so long”, I told her, and she looked down.
“Yes, he sounds like a great King indeed, we’ll be right back” she said with a sad face.
She touched Dr Susan and flashed away.
After a few minutes in silence, Alice and Dr Susan flashed back with a bag and they placed it on a table and the Healer and the Doctor started to administer the medications. Philip was sitting on a chair looking down with his elbows on his legs and hands on his head. He stood up in a jolt and he made his way to the door.
“Philip, where are you going?” Werloth asked, and Philip turned his head to look at him.
“I’m going to do something useful to get to this group, Werloth. You know why? Because I can’t stand seeing Conri in this way, it could have been any of us. It would be f****d up, I know. But if there was someone who didn’t deserve to go through this kind of s**t, it was Conri. He was a good man and a great leader. He always put himself in front of the enemy to protect his realm and all the wolves. He was always the most playful and peaceful among us all and we have no idea how it messed up with his mind and his life, 2 decades, Kings…two-f*****g-decades of torture, pain and no one has ever tried to get to him or help him in any kind of a way. If it wasn’t for Atlantes, there’s no way we could even possibly know about that, so I’m going to take his example and try to figure something out to end with it once and for all, not even if I have to get myself killed so I can speak to Phoenix” Philip shouted the last part and we never saw him get so enraged, he did nothing to hide some tears falling from his eyes and he made his way out slamming the door closed.
We all looked down. He was right.
We have to get to them.
“Why did he say that he would kill himself to speak to Phoenix?” Alice asked.
“The King of the Underworld is unreachable, my love, only if he reaches us or if all the Kings gather together and summon him” I replied and she gulped hard “I think we should all follow Philip’s example, there’s no use being here. Randall and Alice can stay here watching for him as we make some plans”, I told the Kings and Alice punched my chest and when I looked at her face, I noticed how enraged she was.
