Life
I try to sink deeper into the wall. Hopping my uncle doesn’t notice me and leaves me alone. “Get over here you little b***h” he growls at me. I slowly get off my little mattress in the laundry floor and make my way into the kitchen where he is eating the dinner I was forced to make him. “My food isn’t hot” he says as a hand comes and flys across my face. My cheek is burning but it’s not even the worse he has done this week. I take his plate off the table and warm it up in the microwave. I place the food back on the table. “Thanks” he said and he puts his cigarette out on my arm. I hold in the scream that threatens to escape. I run back to my room and Bury my face into my pillow allowing the tears to fall. After about a hour I hear my uncle snoring in his recliner. I slowly walk out to the kitchen and find a apple, a cheese stick and a bottle of water to eat. My uncle doesn’t feed me. He only lets me eat a little bit each day so I don’t die. I don’t know why he hates me so much.
I enter the shower and look at my body. My arms are covered in cigaret burns. My stomach is bruised black and blue which on my pale white skin look even worse. My uncle try’s to avoid my face so not to spark notice of teachers and bystanders. My eyes are hazel green and don’t have a spark that I see in my classmates. My long brown hair is simple just like me. I shower quickly and brush out my long hair. At least tomorrow is a school day so I get 8hrs away from my uncle. I need to leave this back water town. I just need money for a bus ticket and food. I drift off to sleep dreaming of a better life where my uncle isn’t in it.
“b***h get up! Where are my keys!” My uncle yells at me. I look up and receive a kick to my stomach. I gasp for air and he just has a smirk on his face. “I think I saw them on the table last night” I gasp out. He leaves me on the laundry room floor. “I’ll be back at 6pm and my dinner better be waiting for me” he says as he slams the door closed behind him. I need to find a way to leave I can’t take this anymore. I wipe a bit of blood out of the corner of my mouth. I get up and put my purple leggings on, my favorite black hoodie and warm suede boots. I put a little eyeshadow and some mascara on so I look less dead. I go to my uncles bedroom and go into his top drawer and pull out a wad of cash he had. There is about $400 here. I take a duffel bag out and put my few clothes in it, my wallet, my sneakers, hair brush, makeup, shampoo, conditioner and snacks. I also throw in a sleeping bag and pillow barely getting it closed. I grab 3 water bottles and fill them up. It’s about a 4 mile walk to the bus station. The air is slightly cool just turning to fall.
I love being outside. I’m trying to decide where I should go. I want to go to a place where my uncle will not be able to find me. I buy a ticket to New York and hope that I can find job. Maybe I can be a waiter or janitor. This way I can at least eat.
