Daria’s POV
It stunned me. I gave Layla and Zack a startled glance. I scented my mate when I walked into school on my eighteenth birthday. My friend's scent caused me to bolt towards the school's main courtyard.
I was thrilled when I opened the door and saw that Zack, Alpha Fenrir's son, was my mate. He looked stunning as he stood in the centre of the school's grounds. Like Icarus to the sun, I was drawn to him.
As I turned my head in his direction, I was startled to see that Zack had put his arms around Layla's waist and was giving me the evil eye, clenching his teeth and furrowing his brows to keep me from getting any closer.
When she noticed me getting close, Layla threw back her dark hair, put her palm on his chest, and turned her neck to face him.
I stopped dead in my tracks, knots in my stomach. Every student was staring at Layla and Zack. The air was charged with anticipation.
Zack glared at me for a few seconds before turning to Layla and marking her as his mate by sinking his teeth into her neck.
A searing pain shot through my chest, forcing air out of my lungs. I collapsed on the ground, shocked by what had transpired.
With a round of applause, every student began to clap for Zack and Layla. Layla and the son of the Alpha were praised by the headmistress and teachers alike for becoming the future Alpha and Luna of the pack.
My throat clogged with the feelings that came with the biggest betrayal I had ever encountered as a sob forced its way up. I staggered backward, disappearing into the darkness. With tears blazing in my eyes, I turned and hurried towards the greenhouse located at the edge of the campus.
It's not possible! I rasped and rushed through the trees. "This isn't achievable!" I sprinted as quickly as I could, calling my wolf, Gia, to emerge, but Gia was rendered numb by my mate's rejection. stuck inside of me.
As the daughter of an omega, I was nothing in comparison to Layla. Of the group, Zack had the most attractive appearance. Alpha blood flowed through him. He was tall and strong, with Greek god-like features. Grey eyes and golden hair Forever Zack's favourite she-wolf in the Crescent Pack, Layla was the most exquisite and voluptuous of them all. They acted like they were each other's friends because they were certain of it.
My mother left me after a turbulent relationship with my father, Tyler, claiming that the kid would be a shame to the human species. I am the daughter of an omega and a human. She had no idea that I would also be a shame to the werewolf community. Because of my weak and scraggly wolf, I was despised by everyone.
My father married his partner when I was a year old. My life had a severe downturn after that. Natalie, my stepmother, detested me. Natalie made sure I performed all household chores like a maid because they couldn't kick me out. Natalie and Tyler would give me a hard time if I messed up.
I also experienced harassment and bullying at school from other classmates. As mates looked out for one another, I was hopeful that on my eighteenth birthday, I would find my mate and end my suffering, but I was not prepared for this.
I bolted towards the greenhouse through the woods. I leaned against an oak tree and began to cry and wheeze, pressing my hand to my chest to relieve the anguish. Eventually, I was unable to continue. Loud cries burned the back of my throat, and my shoulders ached.
The Moon Goddess had made me into a monster. My body was covered in blue and black bruises from my parents' beatings, but the pain I was experiencing at the moment was unlike any other. I had the impression that someone had torn a hole in my inner soul and that my entire universe was collapsing.
Why am I? I asked the Moon Goddess, pointing the finger at her for all the ****. "What have I caused you to do?" I staggered into the greenhouse and made my way to my section, where I had planted a lot of roses. I tried to inhale as I leaned against a tool rack. I was unsure of how long I was there when someone abruptly grabbed my throat and gave it a forceful squeeze from behind.
"Zack." He moved in front of me, and I choked. I tried to pry it off of him by grabbing his wrist, but I couldn't match his strength.
He towered over me, flashing his teeth and peeling back his lips. "I'm going to kill you and cut your body into so many bits that your father won't be able to recognise you if you dare to tell anyone that you're my mate! Recognise that?
Tears kept falling from my eyes as I looked at him. I thought to myself, hoping that compassion would show in his eyes, "But I am your mate." Friends cherished one another. A little crazy.
Disgust was written all over his face as he grimaced. He grabbed me, wrapped his fingers around my throat, and then smashed me into another shelf, making me wail. Even though stars were shooting across my vision, I was still able to look at him through a fog.
He scoffed and glowered at me, asking, "Did you think that a scraggly half-human half-wolf would be my mate?" "You won't ever be my partner. He growled, "Layla is the one for me.
I whimpered, sensing his domineering aura starting to seep out of him and into me. "Zack."
He threw me towards the rose pots out of anger. I broke a number of them when I fell in on them. My skin was injured by the porcelain shards and thorns.
He gave me a growl before stomping off. I noticed my vision fading as I watched him vanish into the trees. I now understood why Layla used to tease me so much. Zack would only laugh at me when she would simply bump into me or corner me and give me a hard time for even the smallest error.
I had no idea how long I had been lying in the greenhouse among the flowers I had grown with such care, but I heard my friend Maya calling my name as soon as I noticed a star peeking out of the trees overhead. "Sigla! Daria!"
My sole friend at school was Maya. The only person I could trust was her; she was a gamma's daughter.
"My mate is Zack." I muttered.
Maya took me in her arms and held my head in her lap, whispering, "I'm so sorry." "What a ****, Zack!" She sympathised with me since she knew how I felt.
I stood up after crying in Maya's arms once again. I walked back to my house with Maya, knowing that I would be beaten again.
But there was a surprise waiting for me when I got home.
I was startled to see who I saw when I creaked the door open.
"Why is he in this place?"
