Prologue
Why should I breathe if I’m fated to be alone?
A steamy puff of warm air broke through the sharp cold as Eva lay out her deep sigh. She tugged at the trench coat she had covered herself in, begging it to warm her even just a little more. It was a feeble attempt as the thin fabric allowed the jagged coldness to seep into her bones.
I must leave this place. She reasoned tirelessly with herself, knowing that there was no one here who would cry for her, no one who really meant enough to her to hold her back either. If it would have been anyone, it would have been him. But what was he to her anyway? Her mate? Her bully? The man she hated with every fibre of her being? Or the man she couldn’t help but love as her body drew her closer to him whenever they were near. It wasn’t her who hated him first though. They meant nothing to each other until he knew she was meant to be his, and he hers. It was her who ruined his plans for his perfect future, her who wasn’t made to be the perfect Luna he had grown up expecting to fall into his lap.
How could someone so different be his other half?
And why should she pretend to be okay with it?
