Prologue
Standing across the room, my eyes lingered on her figure as–that man, wrapped his arm around her waist. I clenched my glass tightly as I stuck my hand into my pocket, rubbing my thumb and index finger around the rosary I brought with me.
I brought the glass up to my lips as I watched her glide across the marble flooring. Her white wedding dress fabric swayed as she took timed steps to the music.
“Oh! Father Levi, I didn’t see you there.” Her sweet voice slid across my ears as my gaze landed on her hauntingly beautiful hazel stare. My jaw tightened as she kissed the cheek of her husband, patting his chest before she came to greet me. She extended her slender fingers toward me, her milky skin gleaming in the light.
Clearing my throat I placed my glass down on the nearest table. I took a deep breath before turning to her, plastering on a fake smile as I took her delicate hand.
“Hello Kanara–” I wrapped my digits around her hand, her pink lips turning to a soft smile as we shook hands. Electricity prickled my skin as our touch met. My chest tightened while my breathing became shallow. Lust flared within my core, making me grip her tighter. Concern flashed over her face.
“Sorry, I got lost in thought…” I quickly apologized, releasing her hand. Her smile returned.
“It’s been far too long, Kanara. I haven’t seen you at a service for a couple of months.” I held my hand to my chest, savoring her touch, longing for it to return.
“Yes Father, I apologize– things have been…” Her brows furrowed as she trailed off, looking over her shoulder. Her husband was a good twenty feet away, staring me down. I sucked my canine, returning the look.
“Kanara! Come!” Her husband barked as he raised his hand, snapping at her. My eyes fell on the tattoo on his hand as it dropped. It was a detailed skull tattoo that decorated his massive hand, a mark I’m all too familiar with. I flicked my gaze up to him, scanning his face.
“Excuse me Father– I have to go. But…” My attention was brought back to Kanara, who reached out and placed her palm on my shoulder. My gaze drifted to her, standing slightly on her tiptoes to reach me. Her eyes somber as mine locked with hers. “Thank you for coming to this celebration. Your support–means a lot.” Her eyes filled with tears as her lip quivered. Her hand slowly slipped off my shoulder.
I grabbed her quickly, pulling her into me. My breath hitched as her scent encircled my nostrils. Surprise etched its way onto her face as her body pressed against mine. My lips hovered just above her ear.
“If you need… anything– do not hesitate to ask my little cannary…” I whispered to her, my breath hitting the top of her lobe. Her body prickled as goosebumps ran over her skin. I released her, letting her stumble back slightly while her husband rolled his shoulders, taking a step toward me.
She fixed herself, smoothing out her dress. Her gaze fixated on the floor as a piece of her black-blue hair fell in her face.
“Th–Thank you Father…” She whispered, tilting her head down slightly before she turned on her heel, shuffling off to her… trash husband.
Reaching up, I adjusted my collar. Her husband grabbed her by her arm, so tightly I could see the indents from his brutality bruise her wonderful skin. He aggressively dragged her off, down a hall as he spewed Russian to her.
I stuffed my hand back into my pocket, grasping the rosary again. Not tonight Levi… Not tonight. I muttered to myself, turning and leaving the banquet hall that was home to the wedding of my Kanara.
That wonderful little canary will be mine…and I will end that monster who will then see what a real izverg* is.
