Veronica's POV
I only have one friend. The kicker is my mom doesn't even know about our friendship, and neither does his family. I met Oscar the morning I woke up after my first transformation. He covered me with a blanket when he found me and stayed there until I came to. He is a charmer, and can be a lot of fun. He has these deep brown eyes like pools of chocolate fudge. It matches it hair most of the time. When he cuts it short, his hair looks like a lighter color. He constantly is saying" You, Veronica Smith, wish you could look as average as me." To be honest, it seems like it would be nice to be average. When he found me, my hair had completely transformed into a gray wavy mop, and my bright blue eyes turned to a bluish purple tone.
It has been years since we met and he has helped keep me sane. It is amazing to know another werewolf, especially because I don't even consider my mom one anymore. We are a part of the same pack, the one I'm not allowed to communicate with. Oscar knows the risk, but he takes it for me. I'd never let anyone hurt him though, but it might be out of my hands soon. In the pack, when a guy turns 18, they have to start training to become a warrior. Apparently, it is a great honor and could mean redemption for his family. His father was injured during one of his first transformations which led him to unfit for duty. In this pack, their is a hierarchy, it starts with Alpha and his men then it goes to the warriors and then the servants. If you can't do any of these jobs or benefit the hierarchy then you get tossed away like trash. That is why we are able to be friends really. Oscar lives one mile away, but he is the closest nonhuman neighbor I have. The important people in the pack, live in the pack house or close to it. The closer to the boarder you are, the less important or valuable you are.
If I'm being honest, our Alpha sounds like a problem. Alpha Jack needs a Luna or someone to try to talk some sense into his crazy mind. He is going to be the down fall of this pack! Everyone should be valued! I am just so surprised people put up with him, but then again I put up with Larry and he's like Satan himself. Larry is my mom's boyfriend? Honestly I'm not sure what to call him besides the human devil. He looks and his personality are two conflicting things. He looks like a sweet guy, hes of average height. Larry is losing hair on the top of his head, but always wears hats anyways. He is also pudgy. He moved in around the same time I met Oscar, but unlike that sweet gem I call a best bud. When he came into my life it was a disaster. Larry was sweet to my mom, but a total pain to me. My mom thought he was a great father figure. He'd teach me how to become the perfect wife and mate anyone could have. I don't know many 14 year olds who think about being great wives; I certainly was not. Luckily the training didn't start for another year. It started out really small, with him trying to enforce rules. It slowly became lessons to stomp out the spark I had in me. I never listened to his rules and there was punishment. He would smoke Wolfs Bane and blow it in my face while I was chained with silver. How funny that my nickname from Oscar, which was Silver, ended up being my torture. Larry was smart, I will give it to him. He never chained my wrists with silver. The scars would be easily noticeable, instead it was just above my elbows. I really did hate him! He liked to see me weak. The jokes on him, however, he was just making me stronger. I am way to stubborn for my own good, but so is Trixie.
Trixie is my beautiful wolf soul sister. She is a firecracker and tough. She is always telling me that she is going to bite Larry's head off whenever she gets a chance. She is the perfect back up to bring to a fight, even though I never let her join in. She enjoys being let out which I try to give to her as often as possible. Life isn't always great with her though. She is always blaming the mate rejection for my mom's behavior. She is also constantly bugging to go out, she wants to find our mate. The mate discussion, something I will never see eye to eye on with her. I don't want a mate. We are stronger without one, plus I am not letting us becoming like Margret.
"You do realize, we are way to strong to ever become like Margret? She started out weak minded, with her sole purpose to be her husbands slave. I'm telling you our mate won't reject us because we are strong. We will lift him up. Not like Margret. Seriously V. How did we come from her? Or your whole messed up family. Whoever your father was his genes really mixed some stuff and made you tough. He probably was a Warrior," babbled Trixie.
"Come on, you know I hate it when you bring him into it. He is why we are in this situation. He some how got mom into so much trouble that we are in this prison. Plus he knew about me, and I'm here away from other wolves, away from caring family. Stop bringing him up. I don't want to know about my dad and I don't want a mate. I don't know why you always are bringing up one or the other." I countered.
