Chapter 19
Early the next day, Adam did ring Clive Gooding asking him to meet him but not at the police station. He didn’t want to be seen going in there as it would be interpreted as him being called in by the police; he wanted to avoid that speculation. Gooding agreed that this was a good idea and, given the sensitivity of the case, would meet him at his house later that day. He called Adam back around midday confirming that he would be there about 3.00.
When he arrived, Adam introduced him to Isobel; they sat beside the crackling fire which seemed to be constantly lit during this exceptionally cold and wet winter.
