Back to the beginning #1
In the year 1704, the first recorded magic beast appeared in the Colburn kingdom. After destroying 3 of the 5 major cities in the Kingdom, it was finally brought down by a man called Aldrako. Humanity had no way of knowing at that point, however, this was the was just the beginning of the end. The origin of these beasts were completely unknown, so naturally alot of rumours started to spread like wildfire about their true existence. Some said they were sent by the devil to destroy earth, others said it was divine punishment from God for all of mankind's misdeeds. Whichever is right is unimportant, because either way it was the greatest calamity known to mankind. Now that I think about it though, it was probably due to the latter rumour that these beasts became known around the world as Karma Beasts. For a short period of time the disposal of these beasts were going smoothly, the humans pretty much made a sport out of it. However, fast forward 10 years later a beasts far too formidable for humanity emerged, decimating everything in its path. When all hope seemed lost, something unheard of and unexpected occurred. As I died I traveled backwards in time, so I guess I'm some kinda saviour destined to save the world. " I think you've had a little too much to drink there hahahaha I've heard a bunch of drunken stories in my days of running this bar but this one sure takes the cake hahahaha" "Hey old man I'm serious!, The world is going to end" "Hahaha I've been hearing heretics with that since I was a boy and look at me still standing here hahaha" *Takes a sip of the beer* "well you can't say I didn't warn ya" " So let me get this straight, the world ended, you were the only one who survived by traveling through time and the first thing you did was get drunk? Some saviour of humanity you are ya f*****g i***t hahahaha" " I didn't ask to be some saviour, infact no-one actually said I was to be the saviour so I'm just gonna enjoy my second chance at life, doing all the things I never got to do in my past life" "Well I don't blame ya kid, living with the future of humanity on your back is a burden I don't wish on anyone, you have quite the imagination though hahaha since you made my evening everything you had tonight is on the house" "Don't go saying that with such a generous look on your face you old geezer, I only drank one beer" "I know right? You only had one and already talking crazy, I cant even imagine all the crazy things you'd say if you had anymore hahaha" "Fine I'm outta here geezer" "Take care of yourself kid" "Yeah yeah" It's been 2 days now since I've traveled back to the past. When I first woke up I couldn't believe my eyes. I spent a good amount of that first couple of minutes in straight confusion just crying my eyes out. Whether it was tears of joy that I somehow survived, mournful tears for those who've fallen or tears of guilt because I was the only one to escape that hell I'm not sure. What I am certain of though is the fact that after all all the pain I've been through, shedding those tears was the best I've felt in a long time. As far as being sent back in time goes, in my case it was taken as well as anyone would take it. After getting myself together I did what every Normal person in my situation would do. I stalked everyone from my past life to determine whether or not I was the only one who returned to the past. I then proceeded to investigate around where I woke up to determine whether I was sent back in time body and all or if it was only my consciousness that was sent to my past body. The results of the investigations are as follow. So far it appears I'm the only one to have returned. As for the second investigation, after waiting around the house I woke up in for a while, I came to the conclusion that It was my consciousness that was sent to my past body instead of adult me actually coming to the past. Although, now that I think about it, instead of sneaking around looking for myself for half a day, I would've solved that mystery in one second if I had just taken one look in the mirror. My appearance is clearly that of a younger me. Mysteries and investigations aside though, the past sure is nice. I honestly can't believe it was really ever this peaceful and quiet. If a karma beast were to appear here, all these sitting ducks would just be slaughtered. Wouldn't even make sense for me to warn them, and I don't blame them for not believing. I lived it and still finds it ridiculous. Only an i***t would easily believe such a story. "Hey you" sounds of someone calling out could faintly be heard from behind. "hey wait up you crazy tall guy talking to yourself" Finally realising that someone was calling out to him he swiftly turned around "you talking to me?" To which the person replied "Do you see any other crazy tall guys talking to themself?" "I'm not even that tall you're just short, what do you want?" ~wow I thought he'd react to me calling him crazy but he didn't even notice at all~ " Don't you think asking me what I want like that is a little rude?" "Didn't you think Calling me crazy was a little rude? now tell me what you want little girl I don't have time for your bullshit" The girl who approached him was of short stature, she had amazing blue eyes, long golden hair and appeared to be just around his current age. She was wearing a red sleeveless hoodie, with tight jeans shorts. Although she was a little lacking in height he quickly noticed that the growth went to all the right places ~so he noticed I called him crazy after all~ "Hey! it's not little girl, my name is Shari" She said with the most angry pouting face she could muster "...and as for what I want... your story from earlier... I'd like to hear more about it.. if you don't mind. Also sorry about calling you crazy" ~I recognised her from the bar so I waited to hear what she had to say thinking maybe she was returning an item I dropped back there or something. But to think this is what she was interested in~ "Yeah? and why should I tell you?" "well since you were just telling that old man who had no interest in hearing it, I figured you just wanted someone to tell your story to. Besides I was extremely intrigued by the story. I didn't hear much but based on what I did hear I believe you. "so you just believed a crazy story that a stranger was telling just like that? sure you're not just an i***t?" "maybe I am an i***t, but the way I see it, I shouldn't need to know you or need to see any evidence to believe you, because believing something is a choice and I choose to believe you. Besides here! I bought you another beer" ~Yup I was right, only an i***t would believe such a story~ "well since you bought me the beer, I guess I gotta tell ya" ~ just like that huh? he must really love beers or just an i***t~ "Ok listen up, and don't interrupt. I won't be answering any questions either" My name is Ren kazuki. In the year 170.. ~he isn't repeating the the part he already told is he?~ After destroying 3 of the 5 major... ~oh my god he is. word for word too, maybe it is a rehearsed story afterall~ "You can skip the part you already told" "Didn't I tell you to keep quiet? anyways as I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted..." After slowly walking together and sharing the story, they came across a large tree with a bench underneath it where they continued while seated. Ive explicitly stated how hard it was living in the future but if I'm being completely honest it wasn't all bad. There was a time when things were great for the ones who hunted the beasts. The public referred to us as hunters, though that wasn't an official title since anyone who had the strength and the courage could hunt the beasts. After the beasts started appearing, 3 companies rose to fame soon after, Karma Beast Recyclers (KBR), Supernatural Investigators Association (SIA) and MATA, nobody knows what that's short for. The SIA consisted of Researchers that would study the Karma beasts to get a better understanding of how they worked and to also determine their origin, typical scientist research stuff. They were also the ones to originally determine that certain things extracted from the remains of certain beasts Can be used for medicinal purposes. The KBR recycled the remains of karma beasts for stuff like armour or weapons. As for MATA, they don't normally accept or sell things to the public, not under normal circumstances atleast. They're just surrounded in mystery. These companies with the exception of MATA who had their personal hunters, would pay handsomely for anything beast related which is why hunters would make quite a fortune. Karma beasts came in all sizes and forms, they weren't all ferocious beasts hellbent on destruction. Some were cute, cuddly and friendly even. One thing they all had in common though, was the fact that when killed, they all left a special magical skill with whomever dealt the final blow. This wasn't the only way to get their power though, if they accepted you as a friend or simply acknowledges you, the power is also yours depending on the beast. There is also a another rare case known as beast possession, where they possess inanimate objects granting you usage of their power through the object. As was the case with the pen of prophecies. Three things were later discovered. The first being, in some instances two or more skills can merge as one creating and even more powerful skill. The second, if you killed a human who got a magic skill from killing a karma beast you would get that skill. Finally, karma beasts are spawned due to certain circumstances. As you might imagine, as soon as the first discovery became known, humans started killing each other for the power of the beasts. It also happens that a bunch of people killing each other because of greed just happened to be the trigger to summon the biggest calamity ever known to mankind. It was atleast 15m tall, sporting long horns and claws the size of human beings, with three claw marks over both eyes as if it was so tired of seeing mankind behaving like animals it gouged its own eyes out to spare itself from the sight.Possessing A big muscular body, with a bright red glow all over itself as if it's blood was boiling with hatred for mankind so much it started resonating through the skin. The top fighters in the world, Aldrako, Malvo and Becca the sky witch all tried their best as I watched from the sidelines, but in the end they were all no match for The Calamity That stood before them. Everyone I knew, everyone I loved, my friends, my enimies, my acquaintances all massacred right in front of me. Before I knew it, I was the last man standing on the battlefield, literally standing on a mountain of corpse. In a last inch effort to defeat the calamity, before i was spotted, I snuck around the battlefield finishing off anyone still breathing in hopes of increasing the skills in my arsenal to have a better chance of defeating him. Although it was a valiant effort if I do say so myself, in the end i suffered the same fate as everyone else and died by his hands. I then woke up in this body you see before you, two days ago. After finishing the story he glanced over to Shari who was listening attentively like a student who was eager to learn, absorbing every bit of information that came out of his mouth. It was evident in her eyes that she believed everything he just said no matter how ridiculous he might've sounded " Do you have any idea why you were sent back in time?" " No definite answer, however if I had to guess it probably had something to do with the skills I stole at the end. Maybe a couple of them merged forming something new which gave me the ability to time travel" "Do you still have any of the skills?" "no that doesn't seem to be the case, hey! didn't I say no questions?" "Sorry I couldn't help myself hehe" "since you like questions so much I have one for you. why did you believe me so easily? if I had to guess I'd say it's because at some point in the past you desperately needed someone to believe you but nobody did. Am I wrong?" The smile completely left her face and instead she was shrouded in a melancholic aura "You're not completely wrong, you're wrong that nobody believed me though, someone did, however the one I wanted to believe me most did not" "What happened?" "When I was much younger... my...." He noticed how she was struggling to get the words out, so he immediately stopped her. "Hey it's ok you don't have to tell me, I can see this is a hard subject for you to talk about" Clearly forcing a smile she said "No it's alright, since I've started the story I might as well finish right?" After a long pause she resumed where she left off "I didn't know my biological father growing up... the closest thing I've ever known to a father was my mother's second husband. He never had any children of his own, so he loved and cared for me as if I was his own daughter. He was a good man, even though my mother cheated on him. Even got pregnant for another man, he never stopped being there for me. He didn't even divorce mom because that would mean we'd be out on the street. He never once stopped treating me like his daughter, he would still take me shopping and played with me. we had a lot of fun together too. However that fun wasn't destined to last forever, when I was ten years old he passed away. Two years later mom got married for a third time to the guy she got pregnant for a couple years back. At the time of the marriage, my brother was now around ten years old. I didn't like the third husband very much so I tried my best to stay away from him. My brother on the other hand though, despite him being his son, I loved him very much and we were very close. He also had his friends though, so sometimes he'd leave the house to go play with them. After my thirteenth birthday I started noticing my step father started looking at me differently. At first I thought it was nothing. I thought to myself maybe I was thinking too much into things, I was sadly mistaken." Ren started noticing her hands shaking excessively and could clearly hear her voice breaking as she tried to finish the story. He was conflicted, he wanted to stop her but seeing how resolved and determined she looked to finish the story he couldn't. Not knowing what to do he instinctively held her hand. "Starting when I was thirteen"... Tears falling down her face as she tried to continue " ...for three years straight my step father would sneak into my room at night to molest me.... and for three years straight I cried to my mother each day telling her all the things he was doing to me at night..." At the this point the tears were just flooding out. ".... and for three years straight my mother looked me in the eye each day and told I was lying to her because her husband would never do that. Eventually I got tired of it, maybe subconsciously I held on so long because I was waiting for my mother to believe me, even if it was just once. I came to the realisation that was never going to happen, so I decided to take Matters in my own hands." There were now no sign of the tears, all that was left in her eyes was determination, the shaking of the hands also disappeared. "I caught him sleeping one day on the couch, I hurried to the kitchen and took the biggest, sharpest knife I could find then approached him. Aiming for his head, I lifted the knife as high in the air as I possibly could, then swung downwards with all my might. Just before it made impact, my brother came in and stopped me. He pulled me aside and asked what I was doing and if I had gone crazy. I started crying and told him all that was happening these pass three years. As I spoke it was like every word I said made him angrier, but he stood there and listened to the very end. By the time I was done he started crying too, telling me he was sorry he didn't notice I was going through so much sooner and how he wished he could've been there for me. We calmed each other down, I comforted him telling him it was not his fault and there was nothing he couldve done. He started agreeing with me, he then took the knife from me saying that me stabbing him wouldn't be any good, explaining how much trouble I would get into if I committed murder. You know what he said to me next? he said "You're right, there is nothing I could've done back then but there is something I can do now. as your little brother it's my job to protect you and to take out the trash" he then Ran towards him knife in hand, then began mercilessly stabbing him in the crotch. The first stab immediately woke his slumber. I could tell he was in excruciating pain, he was desperately trying to get words out, However, All he could muster were mutters. He didn't even get to beg Denji to stop. Tears filled his eyes as he realised death was better than the pain he was feeling. Looking back, I didn't even try to stop Denji once, in fact I smiled. Whether it was because I was happy someone finally believed me or because I was happy he was dead I'm not sure. But i haven't seen Denji since that day."
