Hello my name is Victori. I was named after some great grandfather who's father won over a pack and named his son Victor. I am the third of four children, but I am not like my siblings. I was born without a wolf. My two older brother and my younger sister have all shifted, but I never did. On my eighteenth birthday I was thrown a party and no one in my pack was my mate. Who would want to be mated to a wolfless anyway. After that I asked my parents if I could spend the summer with my uncle who is the beta of a pack along the coast of Oregon. Ever since I arrived something has felt off. I don't know what it is but I want to find out.

Starting Over Isn't Easy
Victori The drive from northern New York state to the northern coast of Oregon is a long drive, but as I come up to the pack lands I could feel it in my bones that this was going to be an eventful summer. I have just graduated from high school, turned eighteen, and when my parents threw me a party I did not find my mate in my pack, Crescent River. I decided after that I wanted to spend the summer with my uncle, who is the beta of the Silver Crest pack. With permission from the Alpha of Silver Crest, I started my long journey. I want to spend a summer really finding out who I am. I want to spend it without the looks that my pack gives me. I was never really a help to my family, but now I want to find what makes me happy and what I want to do with my life. As I pull up to the gates of the main part of the pack, guards step out. "Who are you and what is your business here?" "I am Victori Forrester from Crescent River. I am here to see my uncle, Beta Declan Berts." I watch his eyes glaze over and then return to their regular dark green. "Alright, everything checks out. I hope you enjoy your stay with us, Victori. The beta resides on the third floor of the pack house and he has asked that you see him in his office first. It is located on the second floor of the pack house." The gates open and I make my way up the main road. Small houses are scattered around here and the closer I get the pack house the bigger the houses get. Coming over a hill, I see a large four story modern mansion sitting on top of the hill. The house is gorgeous. The white walls play well with the dark tinted windows. Small green bushes are set up next to the house with beautiful rose bushes in between them. The grass gives itself over to the natural plants of the meadow that leads to the forest that surrounds the entirety of the pack lands. Pulling up, I park next to a few of the other vehicles there and make my way inside before unloading any of my things. Opening the door, I see that the inside is just as beautiful as the outside. Dark hardwood floors meet up with light cream walls,  wonderful paintings pepper the walls. I hear the laughter of some of the pack members and the smell of fresh baked bread floods the room. I make my way into what appears to be the main gathering room. Teens and young adults are playing games and laughing. The environment here is something I could get used to. A few of them turn to look at me, I smile and wave. From behind me, I feel hands wrap around my waist. "Hi Victori!" I turn my head to see a small eight year old hugging me. "Hi Denise, It's great to see you again. You are so much taller than when I last saw you." "I am two years older than when you last came here. Lucas is now two." My cousin starts going off about everything that has happened since the last time I saw her. The others in the room have gone back to their own conversations as well. "Denise, do you think you can take me to see your daddy?" "Oh, that's right, daddy wanted to see you. That's why he sent me downstairs." She grabs my hand pulling me towards the stairs and then down the hallway past a room marked Alpha Luther and then starts pounding on the door marked Beta Berts. I hear a deep voice telling us to come in, so I open the door and Denise runs in. She makes her way behind the desk and gives her dad a hug. He smiles, leaning over to pick her up and places her on his lap. “I brought Victori, daddy! Just like you asked.” “Thank you little lone. Now why don’t you go find your mother. She should be finished baking those cookies by now.” He gives her a kiss on the cheek then sends her out of the room. "Victori, it's great to see you again. I hope the drive wasn't too bad." I take a seat in one of the chairs across from him, "No, it was actually kind of nice. Father made sure I would have safe places to stay each night. Different packs he has alliances with, I think he hoped that one of them would hold my mate." "That does sound like something he would do. I have already informed the alpha about your condition. He said he would do everything in his power to keep you safe while you are here." I smile a little, " He doesn't have to do anything special for me. I don't have anything planned and I will be sure to keep you informed about everything that I do. I know that having another alpha's child under his care is something he might be worried about, but I don't want to bother anyone while I'm here." "Victori, you won't be bothering anyone. If you need anything please make sure to let us know. In the meantime, Denise will show you to your room in our suite. Then I believe the alpha assigned someone to show you around." After getting settled into my room, I hear a knock at the door. Opening it I find a tall man with dark blonde hair and bright hazel eyes looking down at me. He wears slightly torn jeans and a shirt that hugs all his muscles like he is trying to show them off. "Are you Victoria?" He sounds a little bored and the aura that is coming off of him makes me think that he is an alpha. Probably the alpha's son. "It's Victori but yes." I smile up at him. "Sorry about that. My father might have given me the wrong name." He has barely looked at me the whole time he has been here. "It's alright. It happens more often than you would think. By the way, what is your name?" "Jasper. My father asked if I could show around the pack." Let me just grab a jacket." I watched as a look of confusion spreads across his face. Most werewolves wouldn't need a jacket. The look of confusion tells that the alpha did not tell others about my condition. They are naturally warmer than humans.Being wolfless leaves me being mostly human. I don't heal as fast, run as fast, have as great a sense of smell as werewolves, nor do I have the strength they possess, but I am better than the average human. Being wolfless is not something you would want to tell others. My father was always worried that someone would try to use me against him since I was weaker and couldn't defend myself as well as my siblings. He still trained me in self defense, but up against a full grown angry wolf I would be practically defenseless. I could run fast but I would never be able to outrun a shifted wolf. He leads me around the pack house and the pack lands but staying within the main gates. We start up one of the bigger hills so we can see over the main portion of the land. I take a deep breath as we reach the top. The sun is setting and the shadow cast over the land makes it look so beautiful.  I look out and see the pack house and the houses surrounding it. In the distance I can see a glow of a city sitting just off the pack lands. From the trees on pack land I see the lights of houses belonging to pack members. Not far beyond the main gate I see a rather large structure poking out of the forest. "What is that in the trees over there?" I point to the structure, looking up at Jasper. He doesn’t look at me or where I am pointing but he starts to talk, "You've heard about the first alpha king right?" I nod and he continues, "It's said that this land used to belong to the first king and that was his palace. Before He went mad the packs around here all belonged to him. When he did go mad his lands were divided amongst his beta, gamma, and delta. My family has been the alpha of the land given to his gamma ever since." "Wow. I never knew the history of your pack. It's so fascinating. My mother used to put me to sleep by telling me stories of the first king and his luna. I loved them so much. I always wondered what happened to his lands and why there wasn't a new king appointed. I hope I can see what the palace looks like up close while I am here." “That won’t be possible. It’s forbidden for anyone other than the elders to go near the palace. It’s a sacred place for our pack. Those who break this law are banished and made rogue.” A small shiver works its way through my body. I don’t know if it's from the cold or from the warning. "We should probably head back." The descent of the hill is harder now that the sun has gone down and I can’t see the path in front of me. I trip slightly over a few things before Jasper takes my hand and starts to lead me. "You don't have an alpha wolf. Is it an omega?" I stay silent at words. I don't know how to respond without giving away that I don't have a wolf. I do anything to have one even if it was an omega. "Is that why you left your pack? No one wanted an alpha's daughter with an omega for a wolf?" "My pack loves me. I left for my own reasons. I plan to return at the end of summer to start college. I just want a summer free of the pitiful looks I got from my pack members. So excuse me if I don't tell you what is wrong with me. If it really mattered your father would have let you know." I pull my hand free of his and start walking away from him. I don’t know why but I feel anger boil inside me. He spent most of the day pointing out the obvious and acting like he wanted to be anywhere but with me. Now he wants to ask me the most personal question there is. I make it to the bottom of the hill without tripping or stumbling, but I don't remember the exact way to the pack house. "It's to the left and through the grove of trees." Jasper walks in front of me and starts his way to the grove of trees. He takes a path that doesn't have a lot of roots or rocks to stumble over. It definitely was not the shortest route through the grove. I lay in my bed that night thinking of home. I forgot about the time zone difference until I went to call my family and realized that it was already way past midnight there. I feel kind of lonely here. I know it's only been a day and I haven't really talked to anyone yet, but they will never understand what it is like to be wolfless. No matter where I go I will never be able to fit in. I am too wolf for humans and not wolf enough for werewolves.   Unknown   Stretching my paws out in front of me I look around at what has become of my home. The walls are falling apart, and are covered in moss and cobwebs. I jump off the old bed and stretch out the last of the sleep. How long was I asleep for this time? Making my way out of the old building I can tell it's been quite awhile since I was last awake. The palace is in worse condition than the last time. I decide to stretch a little more by running around the palace. I don’t realize how hungry I am until I spot a very plump rabbit running across my path. The wind changes direction and the smell of something familiar distracts me from the meal I was enjoying. A growl escapes from me and I crouch down into a position ready to attack. A voice that I haven’t heard in a long time speaks up in my head. “It’s her. She did this to us.”  I watch as a figure steps out of the trees. Well that would imply that it was walking. The person who approaches me is actually hovering with the use of wings protruding from her back. “You’re finally awake, Demetrios.” She comes even closer but another growl stops her in her tracks. “Are you still angry with me Demetrios? Or should I call you Lexar?” Of course I am still angry with you. You cursed me to be like this. “You deserved everything that has happened to you. You let her die.” I step back a little, seeing flashes of the past that I have tried to forget pass through my head. “Do you even remember who you are anymore? Human or wolf? Demetrios or Lexar? I guess it doesn’t matter anymore, the new queen has been chosen. She looks just like her. Just like Titania.
