Eternal Hearts of the Damned Book :One chapter one
Eternal Hearts of the Damned Chapter One: The Town That Buried Its Secrets They said Blackthorn Hollow was a town where nothing truly died. Not the memories. Not the secrets. And certainly not the people who were supposed to be gone forever. For years, the small town had hidden beneath a blanket of fog and whispers. Outsiders saw only an old, quiet place surrounded by endless forests, where the streets were empty after sunset and the church bells rang even when no one pulled the rope. But the people who lived there knew the truth. Blackthorn Hollow was alive. And it remembered. Elara Vane had never believed in ghosts, curses, or the strange stories people told to frighten children. She believed in facts. She believed in things that could be proven. Until the night she returned to Blackthorn Hollow. The moment her car crossed the old wooden bridge at the entrance of town, a strange feeling settled in her chest. A feeling she couldn’t explain. Like the town knew she had come back. Like it had been waiting. She looked out of the window at the dark trees surrounding the road. The branches twisted toward the sky like skeletal fingers, and the thick fog moved between them like a living thing. “Welcome home, Elara,” she whispered to herself. But deep down, she wondered if coming back had been a mistake. After her parents’ mysterious death, Elara had inherited the old Vane mansion on the edge of town. She had no memories of the place — only faded stories from her childhood and a warning her grandmother had repeated countless times. Never trust the shadows in Blackthorn Hollow. At the time, Elara thought it was just an old woman’s fear talking. Now, standing before the enormous, abandoned mansion, she wasn’t so sure. The wooden doors creaked open as she pushed them. Inside, everything was exactly as it had been left. Dust covered the furniture. The old clock on the wall had stopped at midnight. And on the table in the entrance hall sat a single black envelope with her name written across it. ELARA VANE. Her heartbeat quickened. She picked it up carefully. Inside was a letter. Only four words were written: “You have returned, finally.” A cold breeze swept through the room. The candle beside her flickered. Then went out. Elara looked around. “Hello?” Silence answered. But she was not alone. She could feel it. Someone was watching. That night, unable to sleep, Elara wandered through the mansion. Every room held pieces of a past she couldn’t remember. Old paintings. Family portraits. Secrets hiding behind locked doors. Then she found the library. Hundreds of books filled the shelves, but one caught her attention. A leather-bound journal resting on a dusty table. Her family name was carved into the cover. VANE BLOODLINE — 1864 Her hands trembled as she opened it. The first page contained a warning. If you are reading this, then the darkness has found you. Elara swallowed. She turned the page. And froze. A name appeared. A name she had never heard before. Lucian Arden. Below it was a sentence written in faded ink. The man who loved me was also the monster who destroyed me. Suddenly— A sound came from behind her. A footstep. Slow. Heavy. Close. Elara turned around. Nothing. Only the empty doorway. Then a voice whispered from the darkness. “You should not have opened that book.” Her breath caught. A man stepped into the moonlight. He was tall, with dark hair and eyes that looked impossibly old. His face was calm, but there was something terrifying about him. Something not human. “Who are you?” Elara asked. The stranger stared at the journal in her hands. Then he looked at her. “My name is Lucian Arden.” The room seemed to stop breathing. Because the name from the journal was standing right in front of her. Impossible. A man who belonged to a story written more than a hundred years ago. A man who should have been dead. Elara stepped back. “That’s not possible.” Lucian’s expression darkened. “In this town, Elara…” He moved closer. “Impossible is usually the first sign that you are close to the truth.” The candles around the room suddenly burst into flames. And somewhere beyond the mansion walls, a creature that had been sleeping for centuries opened its eyes. The curse had begun again. And this time… It had chosen Elara Vane.
