Ivy’s POV.
The blond servant had come into my Chambers rather early. It was as early as what I was using too. I mean the sun was still shining before it would vanish into the ground. She had to lead me to the dining room where the Queen, as well as Charlotte, were already.
“Morning Lady Ivy, sorry for the early wake, but it’s the time which all Royals rise to begin their duties.” The queen simply stated.
“Of course, your majesty.” I greeted him with a bow.
“Oh, you don’t have to do that in front of me, my dear.” She said with a friendly smile. “Whenever the King is around, though, I suggest you do.” She added quickly, which confused me.
I took a seat beside Charlotte, who looked like she needed more sleep. I held in the laugh that almost left my lips from Charlotte’s tired face. The table was set with plenty of breakfast as my maiden placed food onto the plate in front of me. I picked up my fork and knife before cutting into the bacon and egg.
“So before the sunsets every evening, Lady Ivy... and I suppose Lady Charlotte too.” The queen said, looking at me and then at Charlotte.
"You are to rise and begin breakfast. Right after breakfast, I shall be teaching you the duties of a queen. Each and every lesson will be something you will need to know about when you will take your place as queen.” Queen Ava said as we ate breakfast. “Each evening after breakfast we are to meet in the library. That is where all your lessons will be taught.” She added before we continued to eat our breakfast in silence.
Once breakfast was done, Charlotte and I followed the queen to the library to begin my lessons. I can't say I remember the way to the library. The castle was huge and there were so many rooms. I would no doubt get lost, thank goodness that my maiden led me to breakfast this morning. If she hadn't, I would not have been able to find it on my own.
"Now, the first thing you need to know about being a queen. Is that you are expected to birth a male heir?" The queen said, shocking me.
I don’t know how they expected a female to control the gender of a child. I just nodded my head, I wasn’t going to argue about it with the queen. If it was my mother who had told me what the queen had said. I definitely would argue the point.
"Secondly, I trust your mother has raised you to be a lady. So, acting like a lady in the presents of other lords, dukes and knights, basically, any male, is very important. Do not speak when spoken to unless your husband allows you to." Again I just nodded at the queen's words.
I totally do not agree with men being above females, especially husbands being above their wives. I believed in equality for females. Like how my father sees my mother as his equal. However, they don’t show it around anyone, but I always see it. My father may be feared by many, but I saw how loving and caring he is behind closed doors.
The queen spoke all about the duties of a queen. I zoned out from most of it. I figured it was the same as being a lady, only that my husband owns me. That thought took me to Prince Blake. I don’t see him as the type to mistreat me anyway. He seemed to be too much of a gentleman to not make me his equal. I couldn’t wait to see him later, to spend some more time with him.
We were in the library for some time now, the servants had brought our lunch. My maiden was amongst the servants that brought the lunch. I gave her a friendly smile as she bowed to the queen, then towards me. I noticed that amongst the food, they had placed on the table a jug full of blood. I couldn't help but smell that it was fresh like the living creature that had just drained half an hour ago.
I looked at Charlotte and her face said it all. A bitten vampire has a hard time controlling his blood lust. Whereas, a pure-blood like myself and the queen found it bearable. Charlotte was obviously fighting her urge for blood. She was waiting for the queen to have some first before she would. It was only respectful that the queen is fed blood first. The servant poured the queen's blood into her cup before coming around to Charlotte into me.
"Drink up ladies, you're going to need a lot of strength for the upcoming days," the queen said.
Charlotte and I downed ours, as did the queen. It wasn’t long before the queen parted from us, as we stayed in the library a bit longer before we left. Charlotte and I decided to wander around the castle as we left the library. We were lost but as we turned a corner, we ran into Prince Blake and another handsome guy.
"Lady Ivy," the prince said, sounding surprised, "Lady Charlotte, you're all done with my mother for the evening?" He asked as he looked between us.
"Yes, we thought we would wander around a bit to get to know the castle. It seemed like a maze, we were about to head back to our rooms but we didn't know the way," I said.
"Oh, well, this is Sir Noah, my best friend" the prince said, introducing him to me and Charlotte. I couldn’t help but notice Charlotte blush as he kissed her hand. "Noah is also to be my right-hand man like his father was." The prince added.
"Was?" I asked.
"Oh, my father passed away during a battle just last winter," Noah said.
"Oh, I'm sorry for your loss," I said in a sad tone.
"It's fine Lady Ivy, I'm passed the grief stage. I am now focused on stepping up to take my place as the King's right hand," he said confidently.
I couldn’t imagine losing my father to a battle. Every time he left the Keep I would worry about him not returning. My mother would also worry but she would distract herself by attending to the Keep.
"Well, I assume you have been taught the basics of a queen's duty?" The prince asked, taking me out of my thoughts.
"Yes, prince Blake, I have," I replied.
"I'll show you back to your chambers. " Blake said, looking at me. "Sir Noah, perhaps you would like to show Lady Charlotte to her chambers?" He added as he looked at his best friend.
Noah nodded his head before he led Charlotte away. She seemed happy about Sir Noah being alone with her. I chuckled in my head about it, I didn’t want Blake to ask me why I was laughing. I don’t think my answer would be appropriate if he were to ask. After a moment of standing in our place, I followed Blake as he began to lead the way.
"How was your first night?" He asked, "I trust you would have been restless from sleeping in a new place?" He added to his question.
"It was fine, it did take me a while to fall asleep. But I'm sure over time I will get used to it," I answered.
"That is good," he said, "I've arranged for us to have dinner together in three nights' time." He added.
"Oh, don't you normally have dinner together every evening?" I asked, a bit confused.
"No, my father and I are usually busy. We have breakfast and dinner in our chambers." He said, ". However, I have cleared everything for us to have dinner together, alone. In three nights' time," Blake said as we got to the door of my chambers.
"Oh" was all I said.
"For now, just meet with my mother after breakfast so she can teach you queen duties." He said as he kissed my hand. "You won't see me as much as you like, as I will be attending to king duties with my father. Which is why I have arranged for the dinner to be just us." He added. Before I could reply, he turned on his heel and walked away.
I stood there at the door a bit confused. I thought we would spend some time together after my lessons with the queen. We were to be wed in two months and I don't think that would be enough time to get to know each other. Once we would be wed, as tradition we are to sleep with each other on the wedding night. I don’t doubt that everyone would expect us to make an heir right away. Even though it was my first duty as queen, to bear a child, a male child.
