Chapter 1
The tiny figure of a young lady, whose brunette hair looked like a bird's nest, rolled endlessly on the huge bed in the middle of a messy room.
She yawned loudly and snapped her eyes open like an owl. "Gosh, I am late," she screamed in horror as she started at 8:45 a.m., glaring at her from the small metal box placed on the study table.
"Damn you, you didn't wake me up!" She shrieked loudly and angrily flung the metal box across the room. She jumped out of bed with a heavy scowl on her face. "On the most important day of my life, this darn thing decided to stop working."
"Ugh! ..."" If you were a human, I would skin the life out of you." She cursed loudly and pulled her hair out in frustration. She grabbed her toothbrush and brushed her teeth hard, like a nutjob, as if punishing herself for the lateness. She rushed into the shower and was out in a second.
Grabbing a black skirt, white shirt, and a blazer, she finally looked like a decent human with her brunette hair styled beautifully in a ponytail.
"Off I go. You can do this, Aria!" She muttered to someone that looked like a replica of her in the human-size mirror. Stepping out of her room, she rushed down the wooden stairs in her most prized dark heels.
"Oh my poor babies are going for a hot run today, poor thing!" She cried and gave her shoes a quick glance.
She was running late for the ten o'clock interview. Of course, she was happy when they picked today, which is a lecture free day at school, as the day for her job interview. She sang so happily at church from the depths of her heart, with heavenly luck by her side.
Aria, who seemed like an everyday, lively and happy child in the small neighborhood of Suo, had it rough from childhood, being the only one solely responsible for herself after her parents got divorced, and her mom left her dad for good to her new family.
The man had done nothing but be drunk and gamble all day, forgetting he had a child, if not for his lovely aunt, who stuck with the family the whole time. Aria would have felt she was the only one in this cruel world. Speaking of her aunt, the aroma of her sweetest beacon and cheese hurriedly guided her feet to the mini-dining room. "You ain't late, Early Bird," her aunt commented sarcastically from the kitchen.
"Don't even start with me this morning, wait till I come back from work," she said with a mouthful of beacon.
"Okay, ma'am Early Bird." Her aunt rolled her eyes and continued doing the dishes. In no time, she was done with breakfast, grabbing her Hermes bag from the table in haste as well as a file that contained important credentials inside it. "Wish me some luck," she screamed and rushed to the door.
"Good luck and take care, dear." The middle-aged woman bid before looking out of the glassy window. "Don't you need to grab an umbrella? "It might rain," she said thoughtfully. "Umm, Nay...I don't think it will. Take care, Old Lady Kate. She jeered and bolted out of the door. "You silly brat!" her aunt shrieked angrily, and she received the slammed door in response.
"Annoying brat," she muttered angrily, and continued humming while doing the dishes. She bounced happily across the quiet street. She continued to exchange greetings with a few people on the street." Good morning, Grandma Lois," she greeted the old woman warmly at the roadside mini fruit stall. "Oh morning Aria, how are you doing?" The old woman grinned at her." I'm fine, ma'am.
"Good Sales Today!" She wished for herself and continued to walk. "Thank you and take good care of yourself at school," the old lady called after her. She trotted in haste to the bus stop, and after some seconds, the bus arrived and everyone got on it.
Taking the front seat next to the window, she immediately plugged in her earpods, feeling herself up with a cool song and turning down her nervousness in the process.
Arriving at her destination, she smiled and said confidently to herself, "You got this!" breathing as hard as she could, before continuing to walk down the busy road. D-city is known as the most beautiful and busiest industrial and commercial city in the entire L-Nation. So the traffic congestion on the main road network was no news for a busy city like this.
Aria beamed happily as she crossed the huge intersection of D-road. Instantly, the red light turned on while still engrossed with tall, beautiful skyscrapers across the road, especially the one in the east. The white, tall forty-story building where she hoped to start working.
The famous Eragon Multidollar Corporation firm. She was still lost in a trance; she felt something wet drop on her, and before she could say Jack, it started pouring heavily. She tried to make a dash for it when she caught sight of an old man who reeled forward and fell on the slippery floor while trying to run.
Instantly, the red light turned on and the angry cars on the road honked fiercely, "Get your old ass off the road, old hag!" A driver yelled in frustration. She swiftly rushed back to the old man and tried to pull him up, "My glasses! My poor glasses! "The old man fiddled on the floor. "Sir, we have to go now, it is dangerous here," she said loudly in alarm, and she tried to lift him up. Apart from the angry driver in front of them, two people in a white Mercedes-Benz watched them keenly.
The one in the back seat with an irritated expression plastered on his face, seeing his beautiful brows scrunched up in anger and his charming face radiating a dark cold aura, while the driver just smiled proudly at the kind lady's gesture and warmth, "It is rare to find a young lady like this day, such a wonderful lady," he said in awe. The young handsome man, who looked stunning in his dark business suit, rolled his eyes lazily and said dryly, "What good is being kind? It is a weakness that ingrates will use to trample on you. So stupid!" He sneered in disgust.
The man behind pushed his lips slightly and wouldn't dare to say anything against his boss's remark.
"Poor lady!" He muttered under his breath. Finally,. Just getting the man on his feet, just at that moment, as if all odds were against her, the important papers in her file were scattered on the floody road. Badly, she wanted to cry and at the same time yelled out in frustration at nature. She bent to pick up the wet papers before they floated away.
"She is really a nuisance," the middle-aged driver said as his boss scoffed angrily. He turned sadly to see him pull open the car door and walk up to her. "What's wrong with you two? Go die in Hell if you're tired of living. Just move your wretched self out of the way." Another driver cursed bitterly.
One cold glance from the beautiful, rich young man was enough to emit fear into them and shut them up for good. To his driver's surprise, his cold boss bent and started picking up the wet papers elegantly. "Oh man! What the hell happened? I wasn't expecting this shocking surprise." The middle-aged man stared wide-eyed. "Is something wrong with what he ate this morning?" He asked everyone but himself thoughtfully. He got the paper out of the water in no time and handed it to her neatly.
Aria looked up to see the most beautiful face in the world. What in the name of goodness is this? How can a man look this stunning? "Her heart dropped instantly, and her jaw fell open." "He isn't some immortal Greek god, nor is he." Her trance state earned her a questioning look from him, with his dark brow slightly arched.
She quickly collected herself and smiled awkwardly, "How dumb, Aria, even in this state, you had to drool at him. Unbelievable!" she scolded herself inwardly.
"Umm, then...." One glance from him sent her heart thumping loudly. "Aha, thank you. "God bless you, sir," she said gratefully as she struggled with her senses for more words. "Let me treat you to a meal next time we meet as a sign of my appreciation," she grabbed his hand and shaked it.
The young boss was dazed at her actions; his driver burst into laughter. Aria was expecting him to say something, but he didn't. She smiled awkwardly and bowed her ninety-degrees. She quickly pulled out the old man and walked away with him to the roadside. Soon the young man got into his Mercedes-Benz and the cars started moving again. Aria watched his Mercedes-Benz speed off and disappear into the busy street.
"What in the world was that? How can someone who is so good-looking be mute? "That is not fair," she thought pitifully. But the world is never fair, and he got his share of good luck; that is his golden face," she struggled sadly. Aria quietly turned her attention towards the old man, who was staring blankly and trembling due to the cold.
By now their clothes were both soaked. "Poor man," she muttered. "Guess there are no more interviews." Who knew who cursed my luck today? "She fumed angrily and eyed the old man next to her.
"Sir, do you have a phone to call your guardian or anybody that can take care of you and take you home?" She asked warmly.
"No I don't; my son is at the construction site. I just went out for a walk and lost my glasses," the old man said sadly, with a hint of fright in his voice. Yeah, everyone is scared of darkness, especially when you are in an unfamiliar environment where no one cares.
The old man looked like he could hardly see anything without those glasses as he continued to squeeze his eyes. Aria sighed and walked him down to the nearest adult-nursing home.
That was how she ended up spending her whole day nursing, waiting for the old man's guardian to pick him up.
The young man, who seemed to be in his middle thirties, showed up at the end of the day to pick him up. "I'm sorry I kept you waiting. My boss wouldn't allow me to leave. He told me, "He will fire me if I do."
The man said it with guilt on his face. "It's okay," she said, trying hard to feign a smile. She was exhausted, and frustration was eating her out. "God bless you, Ma'am," the man said gratefully. "Thank you, dear child." The old man, who couldn't clearly make out her face, smiled in appreciation. "It is nothing, Grandpa. Please have some warm tea when you get home. She said it and bowed at the booth, before finally walking out of the huge doors.
The dusk slowly appeared as the sun set in the distance. The blue sky had changed to some sort of burning orange-red with a mixture of pink. Who knew the beautiful summer could become annoying with ceaseless impromptu rain?
"Damn ! ""Damn you! Nature, you are really an asshole for cursing my luck today. She yelled angrily and pulled her hair out in frustration as she walked back to the bus stop.
The people on the street watched her behavior in alarm and gave her weird gazes, while some quickly wrapped their hands around their little one's ear, blocking out ugly words. It was pitch black when she arrived, finally, in the quiet Little Suo neighborhood. The sky had turned pitch black. She heavily dragged herself off the bus and walked quietly back to her house.
"Home sweet home," she sighs and rings the bell. In a moment, her beaming aunt pulled the door open. "Hi dear, how was you..." She was about to say more but was cut short when she saw the distressing look on her niece's face. "What in the name of goodness happened to you?" Her aunt shrieked in alarm. "Would you please allow me in before questioning me, ma'am?" She was a little bit irritated. "I'm so sorry, dear, come on in," she helped her in, and the two made their way to the mini dining room.
"Can you not stare at me like that? "You're drilling holes into me with those eyes of yours," she stated, pissed off. "Am sorry, dear," the lady apologized and quickly picked her seat next to her, pretending to be sipping her coffee while giving her sneak glances, ma'am." It's not any better, you know." Aria rolled her eyes angrily.
"Then tell me what had happened; you're killing me with worry here," the aunt said with eyes full of worries. "Nothing, dear," he replied flatly. "Did you attend the interview?" The aunt asked with an intense gaze. "No, it rained like you promised, and I got soaked up with my files," she said with a hint of sadness.
"Poor thing, if only you had listened to me and held the umbrella while leaving. "It wouldn't have cost you this," the woman scolded lightly. "Yeah, yeah ma'am Shaman." Aria stood up lazily, while her eyes gave a quick search in the living room and turned his gaze towards the dark room across them.
"If he is in, he will turn his lamp on," she muttered quietly. "Are you talking about your dad? "He's still at the pub drinking," the aunt said with gritted teeth. "Don't worry, I will go get him and hit sense into him," she fumed angrily. "Thanks Aunt," she smiled gratefully and dragged herself up the wooden stairs, slamming her doors loudly. "Poor thing! What a day!" The aunt muttered quietly.
