The ride back to the pack house was silent.
Too silent.
I sat by the window, my hands clenched tightly in my lap as I tried to calm the storm inside me. Everything was happening too fast, and I hated how powerless I felt.
Kael sat beside me, his presence overwhelming even without him saying a word.
I didn’t look at him.
I refused to.
The moment the car stopped, my heart sank.
We were back.
The same place where I had been rejected.
Humiliated.
Broken.
“I’m not staying here,” I said immediately, stepping out of the car.
“Yes, you are,” Kael replied calmly.
I turned to face him, anger flashing in my eyes. “You can’t force me to stay here!”
His gaze hardened.
“Watch me.”
Before I could react, he placed a hand on my back and guided me forward, ignoring my resistance completely.
People were already staring.
Whispers started again.
“She’s back…”
“Isn’t that the one he rejected?”
Shame burned through me, but I lifted my chin, refusing to look weak this time.
If I was going to stay here…
Then I wouldn’t be the same Lira they once knew.
