REJECTION
“I, Kael Blackwood, reject you… Lira, as my mate.”
The words didn’t just hurt.
They destroyed me.
A gasp spread across the entire hall, followed by whispers that burned deeper than fire. Every eye in the pack house turned to me — some filled with pity, others with mockery.
My legs felt weak.
No… this couldn’t be happening.
Not like this.
Not in front of everyone.
“K-Kael…” my voice trembled, barely audible. “You don’t mean that…”
But his expression remained cold. Unmoved.
Like I was nothing.
Like I had always been nothing.
“I do,” he said flatly. “You are not fit to stand beside me as Luna.”
The words struck harder than a slap.
Tears gathered in my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. Not here. Not in front of people who had always seen me as weak.
“Why?” I whispered. “I’ve done everything right… I’ve—”
“Enough.”
His sharp tone cut me off instantly.
“I have chosen someone more suitable,” he continued, his gaze briefly shifting past me.
I didn’t need to turn around to know who it was.
Alina.
Beautiful. Elegant. Powerful.
Everything I wasn’t.
A soft laugh came from the crowd. Someone whispered, “Did she really think an omega like her could become Luna?”
My chest tightened.
This wasn’t just rejection.
This was humiliation.
Kael stepped closer, his towering presence making it harder to breathe.
“You should be grateful,” he said quietly, only for me to hear. “I’m sparing you from a position you would have failed in.”
That was when something inside me finally broke.
Not loudly.
Not dramatically.
Just… silently.
I straightened, forcing my shaking body to stay upright.
“If that’s how you feel,” I said, my voice steadier than I expected, “then I accept your rejection.”
A flicker of surprise crossed his face.
Good.
For once, I wasn’t begging.
I turned around before the tears could betray me and walked out of the hall, each step heavier than the last.
The doors closed behind me with a loud thud.
And just like that…
It was over.
