I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
The way he held me.
The way his voice changed when he asked if I was okay.
It didn’t make sense.
I paced slowly around my room, running a hand through my hair in frustration.
“You’re overthinking,” I muttered to myself.
But I knew I wasn’t.
This was Kael.
The same man who had rejected me without hesitation, who had looked at me like I meant nothing.
So why was he acting differently now?
A soft knock sounded on the door, interrupting my thoughts.
Before I could even respond, the door opened.
Kael.
Of course.
“You really need to learn how to knock and wait,” I said, folding my arms.
He ignored my words completely.
“You didn’t come to dinner,” he said, his tone calm but firm.
“I wasn’t hungry,” I replied.
His eyes narrowed slightly as he stepped further into the room.
“That’s not your decision anymore.”
I frowned. “Excuse me?”
“You need to eat properly,” he continued. “For the baby.”
There it was again.
Always the baby.
I let out a quiet laugh, shaking my head.
“Stop acting like you care,” I said softly.
For a moment, something shifted in his expression.
Something real.
“I don’t act,” he replied.
Silence filled the room.
Then he stepped closer.
Too close.
My breath caught as my heart began to race again.
His presence was overwhelming, making it hard to think clearly.
“Get some rest,” he said, his voice lower now.
Softer.
And just like that, he turned and walked out.
Leaving me standing there…
More confused than ever.
