I couldn’t take it anymore.
The whispers.
The tension.
The constant feeling of being unwanted.
It was suffocating.
I stood near the edge of the training grounds, watching others move freely while I felt trapped in a life I didn’t choose.
“Running away again?”
I turned sharply.
Kael.
“Why do you keep doing this?” I asked, frustration spilling out. “Why bring me back just to let everyone treat me like this?”
His expression hardened.
“No one is allowed to disrespect you.”
I let out a bitter laugh.
“Then you’re not paying attention.”
Silence fell between us.
“I didn’t ask for this,” I continued. “I didn’t ask for you. I didn’t ask for any of this!”
My voice broke slightly, but I didn’t stop.
“I was doing fine on my own,” I said. “At least I wasn’t constantly reminded that I wasn’t good enough.”
His jaw tightened.
“You think this is about worth?” he asked.
“Isn’t it?” I shot back.
For a moment, he said nothing.
Then he stepped closer.
“Then prove them wrong,” he said quietly.
I frowned.
“How?”
His eyes held mine.
“Stop acting like you’re still weak.”
Something in his tone…
Felt different.
And for the first time…
I started to wonder if he actually believed in me.
