“Careful!”
The warning came too late.
A body slammed into me from behind, and I lost my balance instantly. My foot slipped, and panic shot through me as I stumbled forward.
A sharp fear gripped my chest.
Not me—
The baby.
Before I could hit the ground, strong arms wrapped around me, pulling me back firmly.
My breath caught.
Kael.
His grip was tight, protective, almost possessive as he held me against him. For a moment, I couldn’t move, couldn’t think. My heart was racing too fast.
“Are you okay?” he asked, his voice low, but there was something urgent in it.
“I—I’m fine,” I replied quickly, trying to steady myself.
But he didn’t let go immediately.
His eyes searched my face, then dropped to my stomach, his expression darkening slightly.
“Watch where you’re going,” he said coldly, his gaze shifting to the wolf behind me.
“I’m sorry, Alpha,” the man stuttered nervously. “I didn’t see her—”
“Sorry won’t fix anything,” Kael cut him off sharply.
The hallway went completely silent.
Everyone was watching now.
I could feel it.
But Kael didn’t seem to care.
“Don’t touch her again,” he added, his voice dangerously calm.
My heart skipped at his words.
Slowly, I pulled away from him, confused by the sudden shift in his behavior.
This wasn’t the same man who had rejected me.
This version of Kael…
Felt different.
And that scared me more than anything.
