UNWANTED ATTENTION

283 Words
It started with simple stares. Then whispers followed. And before I knew it, it had turned into something I couldn’t escape. Everywhere I went, I could feel it. Eyes. Watching. Judging. Measuring. Not as Lira… But as the girl carrying the Alpha’s child. “She’s the one.” “That’s her…” “I heard he checks on her every night.” “Maybe she’ll replace Alina.” The words followed me like shadows as I walked through the courtyard, my steps quickening without realizing it. I hated this. I hated how everything had changed. I used to be invisible. Now, I couldn’t go anywhere without being noticed. Without being talked about. My hands clenched slightly at my sides as I tried to block it all out. But it wasn’t easy. It never was. “Lira.” I froze. That voice. Kael. Slowly, I turned to face him, my expression already guarded. “What do you want?” I asked. His eyes moved over my face, studying me carefully like he was trying to read something I didn’t want to show. “You’ve been avoiding people,” he said. I almost laughed. “People aren’t exactly welcoming,” I replied. His jaw tightened slightly. “That will change.” I shook my head. “No, it won’t.” He stepped closer, closing the distance between us. “It will,” he said quietly. “And if it doesn’t?” I challenged. His eyes darkened, his voice dropping just enough to make my heart skip. “Then I’ll make it.” For a moment, I couldn’t speak. Because the way he said it… It didn’t sound like a promise. It sounded like a warning.
