A LINE CROSSED

I wasn’t expecting it. The shove came suddenly, catching me completely off guard. My body lurched forward, and panic shot through me as I struggled to keep my balance. For a split second, everything felt unstable. My heart raced. The baby— I reached out quickly, grabbing the wall before I could fall completely. My breath came out uneven as I steadied myself, one hand instinctively moving to my stomach. Silence followed. Too quiet. Too tense. Slowly, I turned around. A group of wolves stood behind me, watching. Not one of them looked concerned. Not one of them apologized. “Watch where you’re going,” one of them muttered. My chest tightened. “You pushed me,” I said, my voice low but firm. He shrugged carelessly. “So?” The response hit harder than the shove itself. Anger rose inside me, sharp and immediate. Before I could react— A presence filled the space. Cold. Dominant. Dangerous. Kael. “What just happened here?” his voice cut through the silence. No one answered. “I asked a question.” The wolf shifted slightly. “It was nothing, Alpha—” “It didn’t look like nothing.” His gaze moved to me, scanning quickly. “Are you hurt?” I shook my head. But that didn’t calm him. “Stay away from her,” he said coldly. This time… No one argued.
