“Say it.” My voice was quiet. But firm. Kael didn’t move. Didn’t respond. “Just say it,” I repeated. “Who sent them?” His gaze held mine. Cold. Careful. Measured. “You’re not ready for that,” he said. Anger flared instantly. “Stop deciding what I’m ready for!” I snapped. “I was the one they chased!” “And you’re still alive,” he replied. The words hit hard. Too hard. “Is that supposed to make me feel better?” I asked. “No,” he said calmly. “It’s supposed to make you understand the situation.” I stared at him. “This isn’t random,” I continued. “Someone in this pack wants me gone.” Silence. That was all the confirmation I needed. My chest tightened. “There aren’t many people who would go that far,” I said slowly. My mind started putting pieces together. The tension. The threats. The hatred. My eyes lifted to his. “…Alina.” He didn’t speak. Didn’t react. But that silence— It said everything. My breath caught. “She did this?” I asked. “She has influence,” he replied carefully. “That’s not what I asked.” Silence again. Then— “She’s being watched,” he said. My heart sank. “That means yes,” I whispered.
