LINES DRAWN

“Stay away from her.” Kael’s voice cut through the tension like a blade. The moment he spoke, everything shifted. Alina straightened slowly, her expression calm, but her eyes held something sharper now. Something dangerous. “You’re taking her side now?” she asked, her tone light, but the meaning behind it was anything but. “I’m stating a fact,” Kael replied. His voice was controlled. Cold. Unmoving. The kind of tone that made people think twice before speaking again. But Alina wasn’t just anyone. Her gaze flickered briefly before settling again. “This is getting interesting,” she said softly. I took a small step back, feeling the tension between them grow heavier by the second. It wasn’t just an argument. It felt like something bigger. Something deeper. “You’re crossing a line,” Kael continued, his eyes locked on hers. “And what exactly are you going to do about it?” she asked. Silence followed. The kind that made the air feel tight. Like it was hard to breathe. For a moment, I thought something serious was about to happen. Something none of us could take back. Then Kael spoke again. “She’s under my protection.” Alina let out a quiet laugh. “That again?” she said. “You keep repeating it like it changes something.” “It does,” he replied. This time, her smile faded slightly. Her eyes moved toward me. Slow. Measured. “You think this protects you?” she asked. I didn’t answer. Because I wasn’t sure. Not anymore. She stepped closer to me, just enough to make my body tense. “Protection doesn’t last forever,” she said quietly. Then her gaze shifted back to Kael. “And neither does patience.” For a brief second, something unreadable passed between them. Something I didn’t fully understand. But I could feel it. The shift. The line that had just been drawn between them. “This isn’t over,” Alina said finally. Then she turned and walked away. But her presence lingered. Heavy. Unsettling. Because now… It wasn’t just tension anymore. It was war.
