ALINA BREAKS

214 Words
“You embarrassed me.” I froze. Slowly, I turned. Alina stood behind me, her expression colder than I had ever seen it. “I didn’t mean to—” “Don’t,” she cut me off sharply. “Don’t act innocent.” “I’m not acting—” “You always do this,” she said, stepping closer. “You pretend like things just happen to you.” Her words hit harder than I expected. “I didn’t ask for any of this,” I said, my voice firm. She laughed softly, but there was no humor in it. “You didn’t ask for it,” she repeated. “But you’re enjoying it.” “I’m not!” “Then why are you still here?” she demanded. I hesitated. That was enough for her. “That’s what I thought,” she said coldly. Her eyes dropped to my stomach. “This changes things,” she added quietly. My body tensed. “What do you mean?” She looked up again, her gaze sharp. “You have something I don’t.” My heart skipped. “And I won’t let you keep it.” A chill ran down my spine. Because this time… It didn’t sound like a warning. It sounded like a promise.
