“You’re bold now,” Alina said, her lips curving slightly, but there was no warmth in her smile. “Or maybe you’ve just forgotten your place.” I took a step closer, my heart pounding, but I didn’t let it show. “I didn’t forget anything,” I said calmly. “I just stopped letting people walk over me.” For a moment, silence stretched between us. Then she laughed softly. “You think coming back here changes anything?” she asked. “Kael chose me. Not you.” The words hit, but I didn’t react. Not this time. “Then why am I here?” I asked. That made her pause. Just for a second. But I saw it. Doubt. Her eyes darkened, and she stepped closer, lowering her voice. “Let me make something clear,” she said. “You may be carrying his child, but that doesn’t give you any right to stand beside him.” I met her gaze, unshaken. “I’m not here for him,” I replied. “Good,” she said coldly. “Because if you get in my way…” She didn’t finish the sentence. She didn’t need to. The threat was clear. And I knew this was only the beginning.
