The creature didn’t move.

Not even a step.

Its glowing eyes stayed locked on me, its body frozen like something invisible was holding it back.

My heart pounded violently in my chest.

Another creature tried to move toward me—

But stopped again.

“What is happening to me?” I asked.

A loud, unnatural howl echoed through the forest.

Different from the others.

The creatures around us reacted instantly, their bodies going still before retreating back into the darkness.

Gone.

Silence followed.

Heavy.

Unnatural.

My heart was still racing as I looked around.

“They’re gone…” I whispered.

But Kael didn’t relax.

“They didn’t run,” he said quietly.

I frowned.

“Then what did they do?”

“They were called back.”
