THE WORLD BEYOND

The silence stretched between us again. But this time, it felt different. Less tense. More… uncertain. “What’s your name?” I asked. He hesitated. Then— “Ronan.” The name felt unfamiliar. But it didn’t feel harmless. “Why are you really here, Ronan?” I asked. He studied me for a moment before answering. “Because things are about to get worse,” he said. My chest tightened. “How?” “You leaving wasn’t just a personal decision,” he continued. “It shifted something.” “I don’t understand.” “You will,” he said. That wasn’t comforting. At all. “Kael isn’t the only one watching you,” he added. That made my heart drop. “What does that mean?” “It means…” he paused, glancing briefly into the darkness around us, “…you’re more important than you think.” I frowned. “That doesn’t make sense.” “It will,” he said again. I exhaled slowly, trying to process everything. None of this felt normal. None of this felt safe. “What happens now?” I asked. Ronan looked at me for a long moment. Then— “That depends on you,” he said. “On me?” “Yes.” Silence. Then he added: “You can keep running alone…” Or— “You can survive.” Something about the way he said it made my chest tighten. Because it didn’t sound like an offer. It sounded like a warning. And deep down… I had a feeling my story wasn’t getting easier. It was only just beginning. 😈🔥
