The guards outside my room doubled.
I noticed it immediately.
Two became four.
Then six.
Kael didn’t need to say anything.
His actions said enough.
He wasn’t letting me leave.
Not willingly.
I sat up slowly, ignoring the pain that spread through my body.
Every movement felt like a battle.
But I forced myself anyway.
I couldn’t stay here.
Not like this.
Not when danger was still breathing somewhere within these walls.
A soft knock came at the door.
Before I could respond, it opened.
A maid stepped in carefully, carrying a tray.
Food.
Water.
Medicine.
“You should eat,” she said gently.
I didn’t move.
Instead, I studied her.
“You’ve been told to watch me, haven’t you?” I asked.
She froze slightly.
“I—no—”
“It’s fine,” I cut in. “You don’t have to lie.”
Her eyes dropped.
That was enough confirmation.
“Everyone is watching me,” I murmured.
She didn’t respond.
“Even now,” I added.
Because I could feel it.
That pressure.
That constant presence.
Kael’s control reached everywhere.
“You should rest,” she said softly before leaving.
The door closed behind her.
And just like that—
The room felt smaller.
Tighter.
Like a cage.
I leaned back slowly, staring at the ceiling.
If I wanted to leave…
I couldn’t do it the obvious way.
I had to be smarter.
Careful.
Because one thing was clear now—
I wasn’t just being protected.
I was being watched.
