ESCAPE BEGINS IN SILENCE

217 Words
I waited. Not because I wanted to. But because I had to. Rushing now would only make things worse. Every step mattered. Every move had to be calculated. I spent the next hours observing. Listening. Counting. The guards changed shifts every few hours. The hallway grew quieter at night. And the maids… They moved freely. That was the weakness. That was my chance. I sat up slowly, wincing as pain shot through my side. I couldn’t run. Not yet. But I could walk. Barely. And for now… That was enough. Night fell slowly. Darkness covering everything. Silence settling into the walls. I waited until the footsteps outside became less frequent. Until the voices faded. Until the tension dropped just enough. Then— I moved. Slowly. Carefully. My feet touched the ground, and pain shot through my body instantly. I bit back a gasp. Not now. I couldn’t afford to make noise. I grabbed the edge of the table for support, steadying myself. Breathing slowly. Controlling every movement. The door. That was the first obstacle. If I could get past it… Everything else would follow. I stepped forward. One step. Then another. Each one heavier than the last. But I didn’t stop. I couldn’t. Because this time… I wasn’t just thinking about escape. I was thinking about survival.
