THE ALPHA WHO STOPPED ME

251 Words
I reached the final turn. The exit was right there. My heart pounded wildly. This was it. One more step. One more move. Freedom. I stepped forward— “Where do you think you’re going?” Everything stopped. My body froze instantly. That voice. Low. Cold. Dangerous. Kael. Slowly, I turned. He stood there, watching me. His expression unreadable. But his eyes— His eyes said everything. Anger. Relief. Control. “You shouldn’t be out of bed,” he said. I swallowed. “I told you I was leaving.” His gaze darkened. “And I told you,” he replied slowly, “you’re not going anywhere.” The tension between us snapped tight. “I’m not staying here,” I said, forcing the words out. “You don’t have a choice.” “Yes, I do.” “No,” he said, stepping closer, “you don’t.” My heart raced as he closed the distance. Every step he took felt heavier. More final. “I won’t let you walk out like this,” he added. “I’m not yours to control.” That made him stop. For just a second. But it was enough. Because something changed in his expression. Something deeper. Something dangerous. “You are under my protection,” he said. “That’s not protection,” I replied. “That’s a cage.” Silence. Heavy. Final. And then— “You’re not leaving.” This time… It didn’t sound like a warning. It sounded like a promise.
