SOMETHING THAT SHOULDN'T EXIST

406 Words
The shadows moved again. Faster this time. Too fast. My breath caught as I tried to focus through the darkness, but whatever was out there didn’t move like normal wolves. It wasn’t natural. “Kael…” I whispered, my voice barely steady. “I see them,” he said quietly. His body was tense, completely alert, every muscle ready as he stepped slightly in front of me. Protecting me. Even now. The realization hit me, but I didn’t have time to think about it. Because then— They stepped into the light. My heart stopped. They looked like wolves… But something was wrong. Their bodies were larger, twisted in ways that didn’t look right, their eyes glowing an unnatural shade that sent a chill straight through me. “What are they?” I asked, panic creeping into my voice. Kael didn’t answer immediately. But I saw the change in his expression. And that scared me more than anything else. “Stay behind me,” he said again, his voice lower now. That wasn’t an answer. That was a warning. One of the creatures let out a low growl, its body crouching as if preparing to attack. Then another joined it. And another. We were surrounded. My chest tightened as fear settled deep inside me. “This isn’t normal…” I whispered. “No,” Kael said. “It isn’t.” The first one lunged. Everything happened too fast. Kael moved instantly, stepping forward and shifting partially, his strength surging as he intercepted the attack mid-air. The impact echoed through the forest. I stumbled back slightly, my heart racing as I watched him fight. He was fast. Powerful. But there were too many of them. Another creature rushed toward me. I froze. My body refusing to react. “Move!” Kael shouted. But it was too late— Or at least, it should have been. Because just as the creature got close— Something inside me reacted. A sudden surge of heat spread through my body, stronger than anything I had felt before. The creature stopped. Mid-step. Its eyes locked onto me. And for a brief, terrifying moment— It looked afraid. My breath hitched. “What… is happening?” I whispered. Kael turned sharply toward me, his expression shifting from focus to shock. Because whatever had just happened— It wasn’t normal. And deep down… We both knew it meant something far worse was coming. 😈🔥
