That night, sleep didn’t come easily. I lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling, my thoughts running endlessly. Everything felt different. Being back here. Seeing him again. Facing Alina. It was like stepping into a life I had already lost. My hand rested on my stomach, and I let out a soft sigh. “I’ll protect you,” I whispered. No matter what. No matter who stood against me. A soft knock on the door broke my thoughts. I sat up slowly. “Who is it?” The door opened before I got an answer. Kael. Again. “What is it now?” I asked, tired. He stepped inside, closing the door behind him. For a moment, he just stood there, looking at me. Then he spoke. “You’ll have guards from tomorrow.” I frowned. “What? Why?” “To keep you safe.” I almost laughed. “From who?” His expression darkened slightly. “From anyone who might try to harm you… or my child.” Something about the way he said it made my heart skip. This wasn’t just control. This was something else. Something unfamiliar. And for the first time… I began to wonder. Was Kael starting to change?
