John Vale had not seen Sowenna for several weeks, and it was now late October. He had not tried to contact her and she, in turn, had not written to him, neither knew what the other was thinking.
He found that he missed her and the absence did not drive her from his mind, which he was hoping would happen. He did not want to explain to his family the position he was in. He needed to speak to Sowenna, before making any rash decisions.
On the third Sunday of the month, he decided to ride to Godref Rowynek to see his beloved, to find out if she would marry him.
