The Tin Box Bess Creedy decided to move their sparse furniture around a bit in the small room in the cottage. Chairs were placed closer to the fire and the table was set against the wall. On the far side of the room, she pulled the bed away from the wall and began to sweep the floor. She wanted it cleaner, even if it was small and crude. In the corner, as she swept rather vigorously, she uncovered what appeared to be a hole in the floor. On closer examination, she discovered an opening in which was placed a small tin box, very old and covered in dirt. How long it had been there she had no idea and, at the moment, that did not matter. She took it outside and cleaned it off so she could get a better look at it. A rusty clasp held the lid, which was joined to the tin by rust covered hinges
