The gigantic ball of golden light expanded in their wake, consuming everything it touched.
“Gideon!” she yelled. “Overtemp — switch in three.”
His acknowledgment light winked on in her HUD.
“Two.”
They punched through yet another wall and her flight pack shut down.
“One.”
Gideon’s thrusters flared to life, sending them surging forwards.
The vast sphere of light behind them stopped expanding and flew back in on itself. Air rushed past them, drawn into the vacuum left behind as the quantum field collapsed. In an instant, the field went from existing somewhere, to existing everywhere and then nowhere.
‘Shut down.’
