It took several seconds for Gwendolyne to process what she was seeing as she swept down into the Kaoteck pyramid’s grand atrium. At first glance, it seemed as though the whole ground floor had been blown away, sucked into the quantum collapse like so much of the pyramid had already been. But as she drew closer and the details resolved themselves, it became clear that the reason for the optical illusion lay with the atrium’s impressive floor. — It was completely transparent, a vast window into the subterranean depths extending far below the surface structure. Somewhere down there she knew that Avery’s body was trapped in its WHIP pod — no doubt surrounded with Constables by now, trying to decide how to break her control over the building’s systems.
