I had been given seven days off as compensation for the emotional damage that Stella caused during her outburst at the board meeting. Cayden had sent me a text that there would be an investigation into Stella before she was officially terminated by the firm.
There had been a longer and more formal email from the company of course, and there had been a notification that had gone out on the company app, but I had only briefly skimmed through that.
I had read Cayden's text over and over so many times that it was ingrained into my head by now. I could recite it from memory.
'It's just a formality,' his text had read, 'There is no way that she is going to remain an employee at the firm. But we have to follow due process, even if we already know what's going to happen.'
