First Awakening
My tale is not one of sunshine and happiness, but rather something more sinister... darker my tale is one of death of life ripped from youth and thrust into a world of darkness to reside there for all eternity. My life was taken from me, and I intend on returning the favor.
I awoke to the feeling of water dripping onto my face. I looked up to find the source. Everything seemed surreal. I was lying in the woods...but how did I get here?
I started to sit up before receiving a burning pain in my neck. I winced and grabbed at my neck, feeling two small holes in my neck. My hand started trembling as I pulled my hand away to find it covered in blood, startled I let out what could have been a scream, but my throat was so dry was it because I was lying out in the woods in the cold? I was unsure of my current situation or why I was there. As I looked down at myself, I found my clothes torn and bloody, and I was missing a shoe.
'Damn it.' I thought to myself these shoes were one of my favorite pairs... I grimaced and shook the thought from my head as I realized I was more worried about a stupid pair of shoes than how I ended up in the woods looking like I was mauled to death.
I took a deep breath and let out a heavy sigh as I shakily got to my feet, looking around, trying to gather my bearings and figure out how to get home.
After a few hours of wandering around the woods, I finally found the playground, which let me know I wasn't too far from home. As I made my way down the sidewalk, something started pounding in my ears. I stopped mid-stride, but I couldn't figure out what or where the noise was coming from.
I looked around and as I turned toward the playground the thumping grew louder, curiosity got the better of me as I started moving toward it, and I slowly walked toward the jungle gym area where the slides and climbing tunnels where this sensation started to wash over me.
The thumping in my ears grew louder as the world started to become lost to me. My throat started burning as I grew closer to the tunnel that lay below the platform above. I crouched to peek into the wide tunnel. All I saw were two pulses both pumping very fast as if both were excited, the burning in my throat grew stronger, and the thumping in my ears was deafening. I couldn't make anything else out around me as it started to consume me.
Before I knew it, the burning sensation was gone and the thumping was silenced. Then the smell of a strong metallic-like scent filled my senses. I didn't notice it at first, as I was standing upright out of the tunnel when the world came back into view, but I stood there covered in fresh blood. I looked down at my hands, feeling the breeze on my skin giving me goosebumps as if I had just gotten out of a pool with my clothes on.
I stood frozen in shock as my eyes moved to the lumps on the ground. As my eyes focused, I could see the naked bodies of a male and female. The only thing was, their necks had been ripped open. The look of sheer horror was frozen onto their now pale faces as if they had seen a monster.
I once again looked down at myself. My thoughts raced had I done this? Had I taken the lives of these two innocent people and drained all life from their bodies? They lay lifeless in the tunnel growing cold in the night air as I looked up into the night sky feeling my body changing. I felt stronger, somehow, better, as if I were a new person. I couldn't have felt more alive than I did at that very moment.
As the realization of what I had just done started to settle in, I quickly left the playground, being sure to stay out of sight and under streetlights as much as possible to avoid any unwanted attention. Knowing my luck, I'd come across the one "good Samaritan" and would have to try to explain to them that I was alright even though I looked like I had survived a wild animal attack and that I just wanted to get home while making sure they didn't call 911. That was the last thing I needed right now.
I finally came to my street. As I looked around, thankfully, my street was not exactly busy at 3 am I lived on a rather quiet, secluded street that was dead-ended, so the only real traffic we got was from people who lived on this street.
I made my way down the block as I neared my house, I noticed police cars sitting out in front of my house. Why were cops in front of my house? Are you kidding me!? I just wanted to go home without a big scene and looking the way I currently did, I could not just casually walk up to them and expect them not to notice that I'm a walking crime scene. Instead, I decided to jump the fence into the neighbor's yard and silently take a dip in the pool, trying to clean myself off as best I could in the current situation.
I tried to quickly clean off as quietly as I could because the water was freezing. I climbed out of the water, looked at myself, and figured I was "clean enough" and I made my way to my front door. As I turned the corner, Buddy, my pit bull, started whining and trying to get off the porch to get to me.
When my mother's gaze followed buddies the look on my mother's face went from sobbing uncontrollably to rushing to grab me. I winced from her suddenly grabbing me as my whole body was sore, my mother looked at me. I knew my 3rd degree was coming.
"Jade Sierra, where have you been!? And why are you all wet!? What happened to your clothes!?" My mother bombed me with question after question, shaking me slightly as I let out a heavy sigh. I just kept my gaze on the ground, not wanting to deal with her hysterics right now.
"Jade. Answer me!?" As I began to open my mouth, the officer touched my mother's shoulder, making her release her grip from my shoulders.
"Ma'am, your daughter seems to have had a rough 72 hours. Please give her some time to calm down and get cleaned up and come out of her state of shock before bombing her with questions."
My mother nodded as I looked at my feet, trying to process what the cop had just said I had been missing for 72 hours. I was gone for 3 days. No wonder my mother was in hysterics.
I calmly looked up to my mother and mustered the best smile I could to assure her I was ok. "I'm fine, Mom, just some minor cuts and bruises from what I can tell, and I'm cold and dirty...all I. want to do is take a shower and go to sleep."
After my words reached my mother she nodded giving me a hug knowing I was finally safe and at home, she kissed my forehead and hugged me before I moved passed them the cop caught my attention and told me and my mother within the next few days they will need to have a chat with me to try and gather as much information about my disappearance as they could I nodded and turned to head to my room as I walked up the stairs I could still hear the officer talking to my parents about some of the other details, but I didn't care at that point.
I grabbed my PJs off my bed and went through the door to my adjoining bathroom as I started the shower. As I undressed, I stared at myself in the mirror as the steam started to fog it up, I did not know what was going on with me and my body, but I seemed different somehow, I couldn't put my finger on exactly what was different. I still looked the same, still sounded the same but at the same time different, I shook the thought away as I stepped into the shower determined to give myself a thorough scrubbing.
After about half an hour in the shower, I finally turned off the water and started to dry myself. I walked out of my bathroom and looked at the full-length mirror on the back of the door as I looked over myself trying to see if I had any significant injuries that I may have missed while I was in the shower, after looking over myself at least three different times, I finally came to the conclusion that the only real out-of-place injury was the two holes on my neck near my collar bone that were already scarred up they weren't noticeable enough that just looking at me, you would see, you had to be right up on me to even see it.
I sighed as I turned away from the mirror and continued to go through my normal routine of getting ready for bed. I walked over to the side of my bed looking at the clock before climbing under the covers. I reached over and clicked off the lamp as I finally managed to fall asleep around 4:30 am.
Soft whispering echoed through my head as I slept, I felt like I was close enough to hear them, but strangely, just far enough, so I couldn't quite make out what they were saying exactly. I wasn't sure if they were talking directly to me or just around me. It started with just a voice here and there, then sounded as if I had walked into a very crowded room, but the lights were off and all I could hear was disembodied voices that seemed to be jumping around in the darkness shooting from the walls, the echoes growing ever steadily louder in my head until it felt like I was in the middle of nothing more than a circle of blurry whispers drowning out any thoughts I had.
I shot up breathing heavily a cold sweat running from my forehead as my gaze quickly scanned the room waiting to see the source of the haunting whispering, but to no avail sadly so I chalked it up to my brain trying to make sense out of what happened to me in the last 72 hours.
I slowly moved to the edge of my bed as I took a deep breath reaching over to turn on the light, I stopped midway feeling a sense of unnerving wash over me, I wanted to look in the direction of the ominous aura, but something told me if I did, I would greatly regret it.
After what seemed forever the presence disappeared and I let out a sigh of relief as I nearly collapsed onto the floor after my knees almost gave out from the panic I had suddenly felt I threw on the light as fast as I could looking around to find nothing as to whom or what was just in my room I took a deep breath and calmed my nerves before climbing out of bed and walked to my bathroom, as I went to turn on the light I noticed a faint glow to my eyes as if they had small glow sticks in them or something kind of a red tint to them I blinked shaking my head before rubbing my eyes thinking I was just seeing things as the light flipped on I turned on the water, staring down into the sink as the water circled the drain and disappeared.
I looked up at the mirror and stared at my reflection for a while studying my face as if seeing it for the first time I was looking at myself but also at a completely different person, I could not shake the feeling that something seemed off.
I cupped my hands under the water and splashed it onto my face taking a deep breath I did it once or twice more before grabbing my towel and drying my face, I stood there a moment thinking to myself what the dream meant and why I was having it but drew nothing more than a blank.
After shutting off the bathroom light I walked into my room looking towards the corner where I felt that scary aura from earlier, I shuttered slightly before I walked over to my bed and flopped down onto my stomach tucking the pillow under my chin, I laid there thinking about that weird dream I have never had dreams like that before I felt as if it was somehow trying to tell me something? Or warn me of something possibly? I had a gut feeling it was more of a warning than anything.
I lay there for a few minutes wondering why my life had suddenly been flipped upside down why me of all people? I don't get it, suddenly it dawned on me that it could be linked to what happened three days ago and why I ended up in the woods, I was still unsure of what happened that night, but I would make it my goal to find out. I was thankful I made home after whatever it was that had happened and that I had made it out alive...or so I thought.
The sun came peeking through my curtains right into my face as it hit my eyes, I gasped a bit it seemed brighter than usual which was odd maybe it was because I had not seen the sun in a few days and my eyes needed to adjust to being in the daylight again?
I had so many questions and no answers to any of them with a groan I quickly retreated into the blackness of my covers hiding from the annoying sun's rays. Just as I was settling back down into slumber, I heard a knocking at the door and then the sound of my mother's voice calling to me.
"Jade? Jade honey are you awake? It's time to get up."
I sighed very loudly annoyed not only by the sun burning into my retinas but my mother's decision it would be a grand idea to wake me up like I hadn't just gone through a horrible ordeal, for some reason my mother seems to think the best thing to fix any type of problem is to just ignore it and continue with daily life like it never happened as she does with her marital problems with my father, she pretends like she doesn't know that he's been cheating on her with his 20 something-year-old secretary for over 4 years now, she pretends not to notice and he doesn't bother to explain why he's late every night honestly after this long he doesn't need to.
"Yes, mother, I'm awake.... now," I groaned as I rolled over, pushing the blankets off me. As the sound of my mother walking away faded down the stairs, I debated on plopping back into bed but then thought better of it knowing my mother if I was not downstairs by a certain time shed be back in here dragging me out of bed and I did not want to deal with that today.
Placing my feet onto the cold hardwood floor I shuttered regretting not wearing socks I sluggishly moved to my bathroom to get a quick shower to try to fully wake myself up, I started the water as I stripped from my nightclothes tossing them into the hamper, I stepped into the warm water as the chill from leaving my bed left me, I closed my eyes letting the warmth engulf me.
Grabbing the shampoo, I lathered my hair into thick suds washing and brushing my hair was a daily chore within itself I have long jet-black hair as I ran my fingers through my hair making sure I got my hair completely lathered I rinsed my hands of the extra soap before plunging my face into the water. I stood there for a good 15 minutes, contemplating if I wanted to bother going to school today sighing before running my fingers through my hair knowing I didn't have a choice as far as staying home anyhow.
As I was rinsing, I suddenly got a strange chill down my back as if it felt like someone was in the bathroom with me like in those horror movies.
I quickly rinsed my eyes and threw the curtain back enough to see into the bathroom my bathroom isn't very big so it didn't take long before I felt comfortable again and returned to the shower, I put my face back into the water.
As the presence suddenly returned but this time directly in front of the shower curtain I immediately threw open the curtain locking eyes with a tall pale male, his eyes where a beautiful shade of ice blue, his hair was a black as the night he was a magnificent sight to behold. Lost at the very sight before my very eyes I slowly realized a man was standing in my bathroom while I was in the shower. The sudden realization hit like a Mac truck as I took a deep breath about to scream his movement was so quick, I didn't even see him move as he covered my mouth with his hand as he spoke his voice was as smooth as silk.
"Do not scream...do you understand? That is the last thing you want to do right now nod if you understand." He stared at me as I nodded slowly. "Good, now I'm going to remove my hand. If you so much as breath like you're going to scream, I will end you where you stand, which would be a damn shame."
My eyes widened at his words realizing somehow this crazy person got into my house without my parents noticing I nodded once more still terrified. He removed his hand as I took a slow deep breath looking at him, unsure of what to do or say.
He raised a brow noticing me just staring at him like he had three heads as he pointed to the water. "You might want to finish your shower before the water runs cold."
I looked at him dumbfounded as this all sank in when suddenly the word vomit came flowing out, "Who in the hell are you? How did you get into my house? Why are you in my bathroom while I'm showering!?," not realizing I was growing louder with each question he snarled slightly as I quickly hushed.
"I do not owe you any explanation for my actions. You are to do as I say now finish your shower. I shall wait in your room." He left without another word as I stared after him as he made his way into my bedroom and shut the door behind him.
After twenty minutes or so I finally managed to emerge from the bathroom towel wrapped tightly around me hoping that he was nothing more than a figment of my imagination as I entered the bedroom there lay the alluring creature upon my bed, something about him grasped at my deepest inner urges of desire and it pulled hard. He slowly looked toward me as I entered, he motioned for me to come closer.
"Let me take a look over you, Jade." His voice chilled me to the very core of my body as he stood and ran his fingers lightly over my skin his fingers leaving trails of what felt like fire over my skin, tracing over my neck, slowly moving his hands down my body feeling over every curve of my body I didn't understand why he was doing this nor why I was so calm in letting him do so finally he spoke, "Yes, you will do just fine, beautiful just beautiful you suit your name you know."
I looked at him questioningly as I spoke softly, "What are you talking about? And who are you, I've never met you before."
His eyes caught mine as he lifted my chin, smirking slightly the faint light glimmering off his now exposed fangs. "You, my dear girl, have been chosen to be my new pet."
