Chapter 001: Incidentat the at the Birthday Party
Chapter 001: Incident at the Birthday Party "Happy birthday, Mrs. Harvey. I hope you stay healthy and happy for this year." "Thank you for the kind words, Mrs. Goldie." The birthday wishes from the guests made Mrs. Harvey smile widely. Although she was already half a century old, she looked youthful. Thanks to the expensive treatments at the salon every month. Her brown eyes turned to the stage side of the party room, where her daughter and son-in-law were lined up neatly to receive gifts from the guests. Their outfits were all the same. For the men, they wore dark gray suits, while for the daughters, they wore similarly colored dresses, but with additional ribbons and pink accents to add a feminine impression. The party atmosphere is lively with soft music from the orchestra Mrs. Harvey hired, mingling with the chatter and contented laughter of the guests. Everything seemed perfect. However, that all changes when a man comes through the door with hurried steps. The party's bustling atmosphere was gone in seconds, replaced by a suffocating silence. The guests stared at each other, whispering in low voices. The man had silver hair that looked wet with crimson eyes that looked red. His clothes were so shabby that even some parts were muddy and torn, in stark contrast to the guests' luxurious and classy appearance. He was also wearing shoes that were in disrepair, adding to his inappropriateness for the party. "Mrs. Harvey," the man said loudly. Once in front of the stage, he stopped his steps. Droplets of water mixed with mud dripped from his body and littered the floor, causing the guests to move to the edge of the room. Mrs. Harvey gave a low growl, then approached him with a haughty stride. The sound of her feet clad in black heels clashing against the floor made quite a noise in the party room. "Sion," she said in a low voice. "What are you doing here? And what the hell is that outfit of yours? Do you want to embarrass the Harvey family?" Sion was silent for a few seconds. He lowered his head, taking in his shabby appearance. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see the guests sneering at him. He was eager to retaliate. However, that was not his focus at the moment. "Mrs. Harvey," he called out once more. "I'm not here to disgrace this party like you said." "So? What are you here for?" Sion flung himself on the floor, kneeling before Mrs. Harvey. "I beg you, Mrs. Harvey, please lend me some money. My mother is in critical condition at the moment and needs a doctor's treatment as soon as possible," his voice sounded pleading. His eyes heated up, trying to hold back his tears. Mrs. Harvey rolled her eyes, then folded her arms across her chest. "What business is it of mine, then?" Sion raised his head. He bit his lip, holding back the emotions that could come out at any moment, making his chest feel tight. "Mrs. Harvey," Sion tried to soften his voice. He did not want to be seen as insolent by others, even though his mother-in-law's words were sharp as a sword. "My mother is your daughter-in-law, Miu," Sion paused his words for a moment to catch his breath, as well as to stifle the tears that might break out any minute. "Besides, I came here because I wanted to borrow money, not ask for it," Miu, who felt her name being called, tightened her jaw. She walked over to Sion and stood beside her mother. "What? Can you repeat what you said?" "Miu, my mother is your mother-in-law. She's sick and needs money fast and—" "But I never considered that old woman my mother-in-law," Miu interrupted quickly, cutting her husband off. "Isn't it good that her illness is getting worse? She can die sooner and not bother anyone anymore." His wife's words made his eyes bulge in disbelief, as if they were about to pop out of their sockets. Miu's words were so outrageous, his patience was running out. Sion's face flushed with emotion. His blood felt like it was boiling. His chest was pounding. In fact, he unconsciously clenched his fists so tightly that his knuckles turned white while his nails dug into his palms. "Miu!" For the first time, he yelled at his wife. "What do you mean by saying that? Do you want my mother to die quickly?!" "Yes, of course," Miu replied in a cold tone, unafraid of her husband's exploding temper. "Doesn't your mother deserve to die now? She's just an old woman who has always been a hassle to everyone, including my family." "You...." Sion strengthened his fist even more until the nails cut into his palm. Blood dripped onto the floor from the wound. "Is it appropriate for a wife and daughter-in-law to say that? Where's your sympathy?" Miu smiled with satisfaction at making her husband lose control of his emotions. "I never considered your mother my mother-in-law, Sion. I don't consider you my husband either. So, why would I sympathize with your situation?" "You don't consider me your husband? Aren't you married to me and promised before God that if you—“ "I did it because I had to!" Miu raised her tone of voice. "I was forced to marry a poor man like you because of grandfather's will." "You..." "Get out of this room. You're fouling the air and making the party uncomfortable. I'll take care of our divorce." "What?! Miu, what do you mean by—“ "Mr. bodyguard!" From the left and right sides of his body, Sion felt that his hands were gripped by two people. He turned his head, finding the Harvey family bodyguard holding his body. "Get him out of here. And throw all his stuff on the street. I want this job done. Tonight!" Miu ordered firmly. Both men nodded their heads. She dragged Sion, who struggled to break free. But what power? He was outmatched by the two. Once in front of the gate, Sion's body was thrown out, along with his meager belongings. Sion got up and tried to get in. However, he was not fast enough because the two bodyguards had already closed the gate. "Open the gate! I need to talk to Miu and Mrs. Harvey!" "Sorry, man. But you need to get out of here. The Harveys Family don't want you here!" "Then what about my mom? If I can't get money from them, then...." The two guards went straight to their posts, leaving Sion unfinished. An angry Sion roared angrily, breaking the silence of the night. Meanwhile, on the other side, inside a car parked not far from Harvey's residence, a man with bright brown eyes smiled broadly. He held a brochure in his hand. "The target has been evicted from Harvey's residence, sir. Should I go pick him up?" He said to someone on his cell phone. "Yes, pick him up, Terry. Don't let the target escape. This survival show will not run if all the pieces are not complete," "Yes, sir. I understand," the man named Terry turned off his cell phone, then threw it carelessly onto the dashboard. He grinned widely. "We'll meet again, Sion. I hope you remember the Black Code."
