The Search
I didn't know what I was doing at a strip club for the first time in two years. Especially when my boyfriend has been missing for three months now.
Actually, I did know what I was doing here… I was looking for a man called Xeres Ash. The Mysterious boss who my boyfriend had been working for for years now.
The same work that Ethan had been doing for years and I had no idea what it was. Yes, I was the long-term girlfriend of a man I had absolutely no idea what he did for a living. It was pathetic and shameful now that I was left disoriented that I was in a place where I would never be caught dead looking for a man who had disappeared for three months.
But three months ago it wasn't like that. I was the girlfriend that all the girls were envious of. The girlfriend that was loved and taken care of by her man.
Said the man who had gone missing.
And now here I was…. At this place. But this strip club wasn't exactly my gain. The VIP area was my agenda, the place where I would find Xeres Ash, the man who was the boss of Ethan's supposed work and also the man Ethan hated the most.
"Reggie? Reggie? Are you listening?" The sound of a familiar voice pulled me out of my trance as I stared straight at the entrance of the VIP area.
"Why is it so noisy?" Allie asked, her voice higher than usual.
I brought the phone in my hand closer to my ear as it was indeed difficult to hear anything from the noise.
"I'm– I'm at a club," I answered a little untruthfully, knowing my friend would blow a fuse knowing I was running out alone looking for Ethan, rather than leaving it to the police.
But I had to. I couldn't sit back and wait for the same police who had promised to get back to me for two months now when I had a substantial lead the police were refusing to pursue for some reason.
They had told me they would look into it. Three weeks after Ethan had gone missing, I came to the police, giving them every information I had to help them find him, including the fact that he had come home early this year with wounds all over him… He looked like he had escaped death itself, obviously, I opted to call the cops but he refused.
He also refused to tell me what happened to him except for one sentence…. "I'm going to kill Xeres Ash."
Was my boyfriend in the mafia? Was the first question I asked myself, but it was a question I had no answer to because I was the only girl stupid enough to not know what her boyfriend did for a living, except that he worked for one Xeres Ash.
A man I didn't even know what he looked like.
"A club? What club? Why are you at a club alone?" The suspicion in her voice was evident.
She knew that there was a club Xeres Ash frequented… Courtesy of the quarrel I had with Ethan after he came home smelling like booze and ass. That day was the only information I had obtained from Ethan about his work.
"I'm sorry babe, my boss, that ass, we were supposed to have a meeting with some investors,"
He had told me that night.
I remember asking, "Does it have to be a Strip club?"
And I remember him answering, "It's the only place he'll have his damn meetings."
I also remember replying, "Why?"
And he responded with. "I'm sorry baby, I promise I'll never come home like this again."
Standing here now in a strip club with a phone against my ear, I realized just how dumb I was. Everything about his work had always been a blaring red flag. Why hadn't I pushed hard with my questions?
"What– What are you? I can't hear you–?" I chose to respond to Allie with the coward's way out knowing if I continued speaking with her, Allie who was skilled with getting her way with me would discover what I was up to.
"Seriously, Reggie? I know there's nothing wrong with the net–"
"Oh my–? What are you saying… The network here is dogshit I can't hear a single thing–"
"Regina Madison, if you're gonna fake network failure you might as well just put your phone on flight mode because this is–"
"Flight what…. I can't, I think I'm about to get disconnected–"
"This conversation is not over. You know I have the keys to your house, right? I will meet you at ho–"
I quickly ended the call as Allie proceeded to threaten me. I shoved the phone into my back pocket as I headed for the VIP area.
I tried to school my nerves into place, trying to stop my thrumming heart, trying to stop the goosebumps that consumed me.
I was nervous… I was scared.
I did my best to appear as natural as possible.
A huge man by the entrance barricaded by red cloth, quite literally looked down at me.
"This area's restricted," He spoke in a kind of monotonous tune as if this was something he was tired of saying.
"Uh…." I started before reaching into my other pocket and pulling out a slick plastic black card.
The held up the black card with the inscription of a golden moon towards the man. The man frowned a little as he collected the card.
My heart was beating fast hoping this could indeed grant me entrance. This was the card Ethan always carried with him, which was why I was shocked he disappeared without his card.
This card was also how I narrowed down the exact club Ethan and his boss frequented. It had the exact same logo of a golden moon as this Strip Club did.
And luckily enough this club was the only Strip club around this area with the same logo. When I came here and found the VIP area, it wasn't hard to figure that if this Xeres Ash came to such a place, he would be in the VIP area.
I could only hope this card had been used in granting me entrance.
The man arched an eyebrow, looking at the card and at me. "You are…. Alpha Xeres'?"
I was stumped by the question. 'Alpha?' I caught myself from asking this. Was he asking if I was with Xeres Ash?
Confused, the only thing I could do was nod and say, "Yes."
He continued looking at me, questioningly, before returning the card to me. I had to stop myself from sighing in relief as he removed the red drape.
"My apologies for delaying you then," He gestured that I go in with his hand.
I tried not to look like a bundle of load had been removed from my back as I strolled forward.
I held my breath as I entered the VIP area, and it was… It's not what I expected.
You could still faintly hear the music from outside but surprisingly only faintly. The place was in neat order, spacious square cubicles at the edge of the wall, with a side couch and a table.
There were very few people, so much so that one could count the number of people there.
I could only blame myself for being carried away as my body slammed against someone else's.
"I– I'm sorry," I quickly apologized and walked past the person when I heard.
"Who are you?"
I froze, looking back at the person. It was a dark-haired male. The lighting honestly was shitty but I could make out some of his features.
From his towering height to his cold gray eyes.
I shuffled to pull out the card in my pocket, hoping it would save me once again. As I showed the card to him in hopes that it would be used he c****d his head to the side.
My heart skipped a beat as mirth gathered in his gray eyes. "Really unfortunate, Ethan, but Alpha Xeres isn't here tonight."
Whether it be the amusement in his eyes or addressing me as Ethan it was clear he knew I didn't belong here.
Run, was my first thought but I couldn't even process this thought before he got right in my face. I didn't know how to phrase how he suddenly got right at my front but I know fear loomed over me at this moment.
"But you, Ms. Regina Madison, I have to thank you for saving me the trouble of coming to find you." He spoke, amusement dancing in his words.
"W-What do you mean?" I stuttered, inching back as he simply stood there and watched me.
Scream came to my mind.
"Don't worry, Reggie, this will only hurt a bit."
?! I didn't get a chance to register my thoughts before a kind of pain overcame me, starting from my head, and then everything turned dark.
