‘Suppress this matter, name your price.’
My tone came out more troubled than ever. Any discerning person could tell that this matter wouldn't have escalated to this point without the consent of the people involved, especially someone influential like Howard Kennedy. My current actions were akin to barking at the wrong stone but I was at the end of my wits to understand any of it.
I am an open mistress, known to the world as someone who was favored by Howard but not respected enough to be his wife. There was no guarantee I wouldn't regain his favor someday, but for now, I had to rely on my abilities to survive in Chicago.
