My heart sank as I realized the weight of my mistake. The boss had seen through my actions, and now I had to deal with the consequences. As I called the landlord to settle the penalty, I couldn't help but feel a mixture of relief and regret. The landlord, surprisingly understanding, agreed to keep the matter hushed.
After settling the issue, I reported back to the boss, my anxiety evident in every word. His response was unexpected, instructing me to use the money for the penalty and convey the message that we wouldn't be renting the house. I was relieved to have a solution, even if it meant forfeiting the rented property.
