CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE __ CONFRONTATION

The sky outside Kian’s apartment was a deep indigo, the city lights relecting softly against the glass. Kian sat on the edge of his couch, fingers entwined nervously, the faint scent of sandalwood still lingering from Aou’s last visit. Despite the warmth, his chest felt tight, as if the weight of everything, his obsession, his fear of losing Aou, the unspoken expectations was pressing down. Aou arrived quietly, closing the door with a soft click. His sharp, handsome features were softened by a tension Kian rarely saw: the internal struggle between desire, restraint, and responsibility. Kian stood, almost instinctively, and rushed toward him. “Aou… I—” “Wait,” Aou interrupted gently, holding up a hand. “Let’s… calm down first.” He gestured toward the couch. “Sit. Please.” Kian obeyed reluctantly, the tension between them crackling like electricity. Aou’s eyes, deep and discerning, scanned him, noticing the small tremble in his hands, the slight flush in his cheeks. “You’re… anxious,” he observed softly, but there was no judgment in his voice, only awareness. “I can’t help it,” Kian admitted, voice cracking slightly. “I… I need you, Aou. I can’t stop thinking about you, about us… and I know……” “Dr. Amal,” Aou interrupted quietly, a shadow crossing his handsome face. “And your parents… I know he warned you, and what your parents would say if they knew” “I know,” Kian said quickly, cutting him off, desperation creeping in. “But I don’t care anymore. I….. I want you. I need you. I don’t care about what anyone thinks. I’m tired of hiding how I feel!” He buried his face in his hands, voice breaking. Aou exhaled, running a hand through his hair, torn between the pull of Kian’s vulnerability and his own professional, ethical, and familial boundaries. “Kian… you’re beautiful,” he murmured. “And I… care about you more than I can allow myself to. More than I should. But you have to understand my restraint isn’t a lack of feeling. It’s… carefulness. Concern. Fear of others hurting you because of me.” Kian lifted his face, eyes shimmering. “I understand fear. But you don’t need to be afraid of me. I won’t hurt you, I won't allow anyone to hurt you either. I just… want to be loved by you. Fully. Without hesitation. Without distance.” The air between them shifted, charged. Aou stepped closer, the subtle scent of his cologne wrapping around Kian. “You don’t realize,” he whispered, voice low, “how much I’ve already noticed you. How much I care. How often I think about your safety, your happiness… your heartbeat when I’m near.” Kian’s chest tightened, emotions flooding over. “Then… you’re saying… you care about me… like I care about you? But you don't want to start anything with me” he asked, almost breathless. Aou’s gaze softened, the intensity behind it unmistakable. “Yes,” he said, voice deliberate. “I… want you, Kian. I want you in my life. In every part of it. And I’ll show you. I will show you every day that you’re different from anyone else. That you are loved. But I'm just scared to name it” Kian’s hands shook as he reached for Aou’s, intertwining their fingers. “I… I feel the same. I’ve never felt like this… for anyone.” His voice was barely audible, raw with honesty. “I’m yours.” “And I’m yours,” Aou replied, leaning forward to brush their foreheads together. The confession hung in the air between them, heavy and liberating, like a tangible thread binding them closer. “Completely.” But the moment was not entirely serene. Kian’s voice trembled again, a sudden edge cutting through the tenderness. “Then… why do I feel like I can’t fully trust the world around us? My parents… Dr. Amal… they would never accept this, we have to prove it” Aou’s jaw tightened subtly. “Because you care. Because I care. Because the world… isn’t always kind to what we feel is right. But that doesn’t change how we feel, does it?” Kian shook his head, his pulse racing. “No… it doesn’t. But it makes me anxious… obsessive. I can’t stop thinking. I need you here. Always. Even if it’s just to look at you, to know you’re safe.” Aou’s lips pressed into a thin line, a brief flicker of frustration and longing crossing his handsome features. “And that’s exactly why I need to be careful,” he murmured. “Because if I give in too freely, without thought… I could put us at risk. But you… you have no idea how badly I want to hold you right now.” Kian’s breath hitched, and he stepped closer, pressing gently against Aou’s chest. “Then… hold me,” he whispered. “I don’t care about anything else. Just me… and you.” Aou’s eyes softened further, and for a long moment, the tension eased into something warmer, more intimate. He lowered himself onto the couch beside Kian, pulling him close. “You’re mine,” he murmured, resting his forehead against Kian’s. “And I’m yours. But we navigate this… together. Carefully. Because you are worth it. I am worth it. We are.” Kian exhaled shakily, his body trembling with relief, fear, and overwhelming love. “I… I promise I’ll try everything to prove we’re worth it. I trust you. I trust us.” Aou brushed a gentle hand along Kian’s arm. “And I promise I’ll try. To show you… every day… that you’re safe. That you’re loved. That nothing… no one… can diminish that.” They stayed like that for a long time, breathing together, hearts syncing, letting the confession and acknowledgment of mutual love sink in fully. Outside, the city continued its quiet hum, unnoticed. The tension, the fear, the lingering disapproval from the world beyond everything felt distant, irrelevant. Kian leaned in, closing the small gap, pressing a soft kiss to Aou’s jaw, feeling the steady warmth beneath his lips. “You’re… so handsome,” he murmured. “And I… I can’t believe you’re mine.” “And you’re beautiful,” Aou replied, brushing a thumb across Kian’s cheek. “So beautiful. So aware. So… tempting. I could get lost in you.” Kian laughed softly, the sound shaky, emotional, releasing some of the anxiety coiled in his chest. “Then… don’t let me go,” he whispered. “I won’t,” Aou said, his voice both promise and command. He leaned down to press a tender, lingering kiss to Kian’s lips, the intimacy both soothing and electrifying. “Not ever.” Would you like to walk me home today, i didn't bring my car” Kian grabbed his hand, holding it tightly. “Yes,let’s go now,” he said, voice trembling with anticipation and relief. Aou smiled faintly, brushing a kiss against Kian’s temple. “Sometimes… you just have to let your feelings out. Completely. And sometimes… the world will wait.”
