BOND BY DEBT

Some debts are paid with money. Others demand a human sacrifice.

Dominic Lancaster was desperate to save his failing business. With millions at stake and his family facing financial ruin, he turned to the one man powerful enough to save him: Duke Whitmore, the ruthless billionaire known as Almighty Duke.

But Duke's offer came with a price Dominic never imagined paying.

Instead of demanding ordinary collateral, Duke demanded something far more personal—a daughter.

Without her knowledge or consent, Dominic signed an agreement that placed his eldest daughter, Nia Lancaster, at the mercy of a man who saw human lives as nothing more than bargaining chips.

Nia had no idea that her father's desperate decision had already sealed her fate. And with only one month remaining before the debt came due, her world was about to fall apart.

But Duke Whitmore has secrets of his own. His estranged son, Ethan, is hiding a truth that could destroy everything his father has built. Meanwhile, Julian Carter, a mysterious billionaire with a dangerous agenda, is about to cross paths with Nia in a way that will change all their lives.

As betrayal tears the Lancaster family apart, Nia and her younger sister, Ava, find themselves trapped in a game of wealth, power, and revenge they never agreed to play.

But what happens when the people treated as pawns decide to become players?

When hidden truths emerge and the powerful begin to fall, one question remains:

How much blood must be spilled before a debt is finally paid?

THE SIGNATURE OF BETRAYAL
The mahogany door to Duke Whitmore's top-floor office didn't just close. It sealed. It shut out the noise of the city eighty stories below and left only the cold, air-conditioned silence of a room where men were broken every day. Dominic Lancaster sat on the edge of the leather chair, his fingers digging into his knees so hard just to stop them from shaking. Across the huge glass desk, Duke Whitmore didn't look like a man who gives second chances. He looked like a man who collects souls. Duke didn't tell him to sit, but Dominic had sat down anyway. His legs could no longer hold him. Duke didn't offer water. He just leaned back, swirling scotch in a crystal glass, his sharp gray eyes watching the sweat roll down Dominic's face. "Fifty million dollars, Dominic," Duke said, his voice low and rough, full of authority. "That is not a loan. That is a rescue mission. And I am not a charity." "I know, Duke. I know," Dominic said quickly, leaning forward, breathing fast. "Lancaster Shipping has been my life for thirty years. The port strikes, the supply chain delays... it's just a temporary setback. I just need a bridge loan to clear the customs hold at the harbor. Once those containers clear, revenue will double. I can repay you in six months. Even four months!" Duke laughed. It was cold. It had no humor in it, and it sent a chill down Dominic's spine. He dropped the glass on the desk with a soft clink. "Don't insult me with projections," Duke said calmly. "Your suppliers are sending you legal notices. Your workers have not been paid in three weeks. You are drowning, Dominic. And when drowning men grab my hand, they try to pull me down with them." "I swear to you, on my family's name, you will get every cent back!" Dominic's voice broke. "Charge me interest. Twenty percent... thirty percent! Whatever you want!" Duke leaned forward, his elbows on the polished wood. The light from the window showed the hard lines on his face and the cold calculation in his eyes. "Money does not interest me," Duke said quietly. "I have more money than I can spend in three lifetimes. What I lack... is continuity." Dominic frowned. "Continuity?" "My son, Ethan," Duke said the name like it left a bad taste in his mouth. "He is weak. Sickly since the day he was born. A frail disappointment who spends more time hooked to machines than standing on his own feet. The doctors tell me he might not live past thirty." He paused, his eyes locking onto Dominic. "My empire needs an heir. A strong, legitimate Whitmore bloodline to carry my legacy when I am gone. Ethan needs a wife — a woman from a decent family, disciplined, loyal. Someone who will stay by his side, give him a child, and secure my family's future." Dominic felt his stomach tighten. "Duke... I don't understand what this has to do with my loan." Duke reached inside his suit jacket, brought out a thick document, and slid it across the desk. It landed in front of Dominic with a heavy thud. "Clause 12," Duke said, pointing with one finger. "Read it." Dominic's hands were shaking badly as he adjusted his glasses and looked at the paper. His eyes scanned the black text until his heart stopped. ...In the event that the Principal Sum of $50,000,000 is not repaid in full within six (6) calendar months from the date of execution, the Borrower agrees that his eldest daughter, Nia Lancaster, shall serve as full collateral for the debt, surrendering all legal rights to enter into an irrevocable marriage contract with Ethan Whitmore... Dominic gasped and dropped the papers like they burned him. He pushed himself out of the chair, his face completely white. "No," he whispered, shaking his head fast. "No, no, no. Duke, you can't be serious. Nia? She's my daughter! She's a human being, not a piece of property! You want me to trade my child for a business loan?" "I am offering you a lifeline," Duke corrected, his voice flat and hard like stone. "You take my fifty million. You save your shipping company. You repay me before the six months are up, and this contract becomes just a piece of scrap paper. Nia never has to know it existed." Duke stood up, buttoning his suit jacket slowly. He walked around the desk and stopped just inches from Dominic. The power coming from him was suffocating. "But if you fail..." Duke whispered, leaning in, "I take your daughter. She marries my son. She bears my grandchild. And your debt is settled." "I can't do this to her," Dominic cried softly, covering his face with his hands. "Nia is the heart of our home. She takes care of her mother, she supports her younger sister, Ava... she trusts me! If she ever found out—" "Then don't fail," Duke cut him sharply. "It's simple, Dominic. Are you a businessman who can fix his company in six months, or are you a coward who will let thirty years of hard work go under today? If you walk out that door without signing, your bankruptcy will be filed by noon. Your house will be foreclosed. Your sick wife won't even be able to afford her medication." The mention of his wife hit Dominic like a punch. His chest was heaving as he stared at the pen on the desk. Six months. It was six months. I can clear the port in two week's Dominic lied to himself, his mind running fast in panic. I'll pay the suppliers. I'll get the shipments moving. I'll repay the fifty million long before the deadline. Nia will never know. She will never suffer for my mistakes. It is just a formal security clause. It will never come to that. "Six months," Dominic whispered, his voice shaking so much it was barely there. "Not a day less." "Six months," Duke confirmed, pushing a gold fountain pen into Dominic's hand. "Sign." Dominic's fingers tightened around the heavy pen. His vision blurred with tears as he pressed it to the bottom of the page. Dominic Lancaster. The ink dried dark and final on the white paper. Duke pulled the document back immediately, checking the signature with a cold smile. He picked up his glass and took a slow sip. "Pleasure doing business with you, Dominic. The fifty million will be wired to your account within the hour." Dominic didn't say another word. He turned and staggered out of the office, feeling like the room had stripped him of his dignity, his pride, and his soul. *** Two hours later, Dominic stood outside the front door of his family home. The afternoon sun was warm, but he felt completely numb. He pushed the door open, trying to look normal. "Dad?" Nia's soft, warm voice came from the kitchen. She walked out into the hallway, wearing an apron over her simple clothes, her dark hair tied back. Her smile was full of genuine, unconditional love. "You're home early," Nia said, walking up to him and taking his heavy briefcase. She looked at his pale face and frowned. "Dad, are you okay? You look exhausted. Did the meeting with the investors go poorly?" Dominic looked at his eldest daughter — at her bright, caring eyes, her gentle posture, her whole life ahead of her. He felt sick. What have I done? "No, sweetheart," Dominic lied, forcing a painful smile as he reached out to touch her cheek with a shaking hand. "The meeting... went well. Everything is going to be just fine." Nia sighed in relief, her bright smile coming back. "Thank God. Mom is resting upstairs, and Ava is coming over later to discuss her wedding dress. We were all so worried about you." "Don't worry about me, Nia," Dominic whispered, his voice breaking as he looked away, unable to meet her innocent eyes. "Your dad has everything under control." He walked past her toward his study, carrying a dark, dangerous secret that had j ust set a ticking time bomb in the middle of their lives. And the clock was already ticking down.
