BROKEN NECKLACE
KAELANA
“I have to go now. I promised my dad I'll be home by 8 and this is about 15 minutes,” I explained to June who kept trying to convince me to stay.
“We only arrived an hour back and you want us to leave?” June pointed out, grabbing another glass of drink at the counter. “What the hell happened to you over there? You look flushed.”
My face grew hot when I recalled how I had kissed a stranger only a while back. Shaking my head slightly, I replied, “Nothing serious. You know what, you can stay behind. I'll go. We'll see each other in school on Monday.”
With that, I trudged off, not bothering to look back. I was walking along the hallway when someone grabbed me and pushed me against the wall.
“Wh-” I cried out, struggling to free myself before realizing it was just James. “Get off me James!”
"Where do you think you're going, princess?" He asked, breathing hotly against my neck.
Every muscle in my body went rigid and I felt repulsion in my stomach as I turned to meet his gaze. He had on his face an ugly smirk that only served to amplify his distasteful looks.
"Move," I snapped, stepping back, but it was impossible since I was caged in between his hands.
Chuckling slightly, James tilted his head as he pressed a kiss on my neck.
"You always act like you're too good for everyone, don’t you? Like you're special."
"Get lost!" I yelled, shoving at his chest roughly but he was either too rigid to be moved or I was too weak to push.
"You first," he taunted, stepping closer to my face, her breaths now intertwining.
Suddenly I felt his fingers tracing the necklace on my neck. Reaching out to grab his finger, I warned sharply, “Don’t.”
“Still wearing this thing? Thought you’d have outgrown Daddy’s little gift by now,” he said, reaching down to inhale my scent.
“Touch it, and I swear…” I didn't get to finish before he tugged hard and it came undone, falling to the ground and the silver locket in his hand.
“Oops,” he said, twirling the locket between his fingers as he watched my reaction.
I wanted to dig my fist in his face and replace his smug reaction with a bloody nose and maybe scream out loud till…
A rough hand gripped my jaw, tipping my face up to stare at my assaulter.
"Let go of me," I gritted out, thrashing, while James, amused, smiled while using the opportunity to rub bodies with me.
"You should be thanking me," he murmured, lips grazing her jaw. "Maybe now you’ll stop pretending you’re untouchable."
Rage coursed through me and I saw red but before I could act on it, James’s body slammed against the wall, his head snapping back violently. A strangled grunt escaped him as he collapsed to the floor, groaning.
First instinct was to step back but I was already against the wall when my saviour came to sight.
Dark clothes, gray eyes, white sneakers and dark tousled hair… Everything was so familiar.
It was the exact stranger I had kissed earlier.
"Did he hurt you?" He asked, staring down at my small frame.
‘No,’ I wanted to say but the words were lodged in my throat so I simply nodded.
A groan from the floor came, distracting us. James tried to push himself up, but the stranger’s boot pressed against his chest, pinning him down.
"Touch her again," the man said all too calmly, "and I’ll make sure you don’t get back up next time."
James obediently lay back on the floor while the stranger leaned down and grabbed all pieces of the locket, he stared at it for a while, then he grabbed my palm and placed it in.
His warm ones against my cold ones.
"Come on," he said, gaze locked onto mine. "You’re shaking."
Pulling off his trench coat, he wrapped it around my shoulders and led me away.
He led me back to the dancing floor, wrapped his hand around my waist and began dancing. All was done without a single word of protest from me but the guilt was eating me up.
Guilt because I enjoyed the kiss from a total stranger way too much.
"You dance like you’re waiting for an escape route," he murmured, breaking my train of thought.
"Maybe I am," I shot back, avoiding his searing gaze.
“You’re not running, though,” he replied, smirking as he twirled me and then pulled me back to himself.
I wasn't ready so I found myself held against his chest so close that I could hear his heartbeat.
My breath quickened and I pulled away immediately, trying to get away from him but he didn't let me.
“The dance isn't over Kaelana,” he pointed out, like I didn't already know that.
“I have to go. My dad would be worried and I promised I'd be back by 8,” I said, trying to subtly pull my hand away but it remained firm.
“Are you scared I'd kiss you again?” He suddenly asked and I seized all attempts to pull away.
To start with, I kissed him first but if he wanted to take the blame, I wasn't going to argue. Secondly, YES. I was scared of the fact that I liked it way too much… but he didn't need to know all that.
“That kiss…” I began, tipping my head back to stare into his eyes but I could only maintain it for a few seconds before I leveled my gaze. “It never should have happened.”
“Hmm, true,” he hummed and twirled me again. When he pulled me back to himself again, his arms went to my waist and soon my feet were off the ground. Before I could register what had happened, our lips met again.
I gasped, giving him the opportunity to slip his tongue into my mouth as he sucked on my tongue. And my betrayal of a body liked it so much that not even guilt stopped me from reciprocating.
Well, not until reality slammed into me and I suddenly jerked back, panting. “I… I can’t…”
“Kaelana!” He called out but I was already halfway out of the room.
