CHAPTER 14 - SING

1210 Words
HANNAH When Apollo dropped me off, he immediately left. There was no conversation between the two of us and we were silent the entire trip. I just watched the car drive away until I couldn't see it anymore. My tears are almost gone from crying earlier in the park. I immediately called Freya so that I could release all the accumulated emotions from my chest. "Hold on, Hannah." Freya greeted me. I just lay on her thighs while I hugged my pillow. It just listens to what I say and occasionally strokes my hair. When I called, she was in the office, but when she noticed that I was crying, she immediately came to me. And because she loves his job so much, she consoles me while she faces her laptop. "Sorry to bother you today," I said between sobs. "It's alright. I know you need me," she said softly to me. "I want to go home to Cebu. I'll be there." "Are you going to move on? It's possible. So that you don't see that person's face anymore." "It hurts, Freya. I did everything to make him happy." "Why did you do everything to make her happy? Are you a clown?" she joked. I know she just wants me to laugh. "I thought I could get Tallia out of his mind," I sobbed again. "Why didn't you just let him heal before you squeezed yourself in?" "It's because I'm stupid. I don't think. I only use my heart." She took a deep breath. "That's enough. You're crying again." "Am I not enough?" "You know, don't question your worth. You are good enough for the right person." I looked at her. In the few years of our friendship, this is the only time I heard that she gave proper love advice. I got up and she frowned. "Why? What’s wrong?" "We should put that on a t-shirt." She hit me lightly. "You’re crazy." The next day, Freya and I left together to go to our respective jobs. I was in the hallway when I met Apollo. "G-Good morning, sir." I congratulated him but he just passed me. He didn't even look at me. I didn't wallow in sadness and just did my job. I put the coffee down on Sir Zander's table and he handed me one of the close-out reports. "I can't sign this. It wasn't addressed to me." I checked it and saw Apollo's full name. "Alright, Sir. I will pass this to his secretary." "We had a lot of engagements today, can we have overtime?" I nodded. "Yes, sir. I don't have any plans tonight." After our conversation, I left his office to organize the documents needed for his next meeting. A white folder caught my attention, it was the report I was supposed to give to Apollo's secretary. I walked to where his office was and approached his secretary's table. "Hi, I need the VP's signature in this corner." I point to the lower right corner. "As soon as possible." "Okay, miss. I'll inform him right away." "Uhm, just send me a scanned copy. Thank you." After saying that, I quickly left. Maybe when I hear his voice, my heart beat will change again. It was already 9PM when Sir Zander sent me home, so he could finish the remaining documents. I was at the lobby while waiting for a ride when I saw Apollo pass by. He must not have noticed me because I was standing near the lobby column. I just looked at him as he walked towards the exit door. As the partition of the lobby was full height glass, I saw the woman jump up and hug him. It was Anabel. "So they hook up, huh." I whispered. Apollo was smiling. Anabel was laughing. They are flirting with each other. It was very painful to watch them. I took a deep breath and shook my head. "Love yourself, Hannah." I took the elevator again and returned to the office. I caught up with Sir Zander staring at his monitor. He looked up and frowned. "Sir, I'm sorry. I just need to talk with you." I said politely. He nodded in surprise. "Alright. Go ahead." I informed him of my resignation and the reason for it. I can't bear to see and be with Apollo anymore. I'm not mad at him, I just want to heal. I don't hold a grudge against Apollo, because I know I'm really the one to blame. I took the stone that hit my head. Sir Zander understood what I wanted and like other employers he also begged and gave a big offer. But that's not what I need. I want to heal. And I wouldn't get that if I saw Apollo every day. I will definitely follow and follow him with my eyes when he passes in front of me. I tendered my resignation for a month, I also endured and waited for a month. Especially today because it is my last day and Apollo's birthday. Anabel rushed him to the office. The two are happy but have not admitted that they are dating. They emphasized their friendship but people didn't believe it. Our colleagues kept teasing the two of them. I wanted to come and greet him one last time but I couldn't fit in. I should be content with watching from afar. "Wait, isn't today your last day, miss Hannah?!" Apollo's secretary got louder. Everything went haywire and I became the center of attention. I just smiled when asked why I was leaving. I glanced at Apollo but he didn't seem to care that I was leaving. "Miss Hannah, we're going to miss your mischief in the pantry." "Good thing I didn't date you, Miss Hannah. LDR is hard." "All my bags are packed. I'm ready to go. I'm standin' here outside your door. I hate to wake you up to say goodbye." I started a song. "But the dawn is breakin'. It's early morning. The taxi's waitin'. He's blowin' his horn. Already I'm so lonesome I could die." Some of my colleagues join in while clapping along to the beat. "So kiss me and smile for me. Tell me that you'll wait for me. Hold me like you'll never let me go." We sang together while raising the wine glass we were holding. "'Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane. Don't know when I'll be back again. Oh babe, I hate to go." I sing while looking at Apollo. Our eyes met and I just smiled at him. "There's so many times I've let you down. So many times I've played around. I tell you now, they don't mean a thing." My colleagues sang in unison as if each lyric was swallowing them. They were given to each other as if we were doing an intermission number. "Every place I go, I'll think of you. Every song I sing, I'll sing for you." My voice almost broke. Apollo looked away and turned his attention to Anabel. "When I come back, I'll bring your wedding ring." The crowd almost cheered when Apollo sang the next line while looking at Anabel. It's good that people's attention went to them because they didn't see my sudden tears.
