The Old Fox

500 Words
When Emma finished dinner and walked out of the living room, she happened to see Ethan's back as he stepped out the door. Alex was going out for his usual evening walk. However, Zuo Mama, unusually, did not join her husband. Instead, she pulled Emma to sit down in the living room to chat. "Emma, you said you just graduated from university this year, right?" Zuo Mama asked, holding her hand. "Yes." "What did you major in?" "Marketing." Emma was somewhat puzzled by Zuo Mama's questions. "Have you thought about looking for a job?" Marketing? Isn't that perfect for working at Zhefeng’s company? Hehe, even heaven is helping her... "Yes, I plan to find a job here after graduation." Uh... strangely, she felt like Zuo Mama's smile had a bit of an old fox’s cunning. Emma instinctively shifted slightly away. "Really? That's wonderful!" Zuo Mama was almost bouncing with joy. "Zhefeng's company is really ‘lacking’ people. I think you'd be quite suitable for him—uh, I mean his company." Uh, she almost let it slip, revealing her intentions. Emma frowned in embarrassment. "But I want to find a job based on my own abilities." Besides, Ethan didn’t seem to like her at all. "Finding a job on your own can be very hard. The reality of this society is very harsh. Even if you have the skills, you might still miss out on opportunities," Zuo Mama began to persuade her. Emma hesitated. She knew Zuo Mama was right. This society could be cruel. Recently, she had encountered a senior who graduated two years earlier and was still looking for a job. Seeing that Emma seemed to waver, Zuo Mama smiled wider and said, "You're not going to play at Zhefeng's company; you’ll be working like everyone else. Besides, as long as Zhefeng doesn't say anything, who will know you got in because of connections?" "But, won't he mind?" He seems to dislike me, so he probably wouldn't agree to let me into his company. "He definitely won't mind!" Zuo Mama said firmly. Of course, although her son was ruthless and decisive in business, in front of them, he was definitely a dutiful son. He often complied with their wishes, which was why he allowed them to intervene in his marriage. "Well, let me think about it." Emma felt it was hard to refuse outright, so she replied like this. Zuo Mama nodded. After a pause, she added, "Emma, there are some things I'm not sure how to say, but I can't avoid saying them." Emma sensed what Zuo Mama was hinting at. "Zuo Mama, just say what you want." After all, the reason she came here was for what was mentioned in the letter, right? "Eh? Why are you still calling me Zuo Mama?" Zuo Mama looked at her curiously. Suddenly realizing something, her face clouded with disappointment. "I see, you don't want to call me Mom. Because you came to the Zuo family to refuse us, right?"
