*Dustin's POV*
Walking through the pack house, I stopped at the photo of my parents, they were true mates and madly in love.
Scoffing, I think to myself. "Mates are a terrible fate."
I remember watching my father Alpha Derek fall into madness over losing his mate, Amber, while visiting a neighboring pack to discuss remaining neutral or forming an alliance.
I'm sure you can figure out that we in fact did not form an alliance after they waged an attack, targeting my mom. Derek and the warriors that were brought along ended up slaughtering more than half of the pack, including all of their ranked members and offspring. I say it was justified on our end, we took in the Omegas that were left alive in the end.
"There you are!" Katherine hummed happily as she snaked her arms around my waist from behind.
Katherine was a looker, standing at around 5'6 but more on the skinnier side. She refused to train with the rest of the pack as she believes that a Luna shouldn't have to take part in any battles that would happen. I've tried to get her to at least do some form of training, but she wouldn't listen in the slightest, so I had given up on that side of things.
"Katherine," I said softly as she slid herself to face me. Her blue-green eyes stared into mine with a bit of a twinkle.
"Why do you keep disappearing for hours on end, my love? We really should be working on trying to make you some heirs for our pack," she said with a hint of seduction in her voice. Her eyes darken slightly with lust as she trails her fingers down my chest, stopping just above the waistline of my pants.
"Maybe later, I have important alpha duties to attend to, and as to why I keep disappearing, that is none of your concern," I said gently with a hint of sternness.
Hating when people question me, I kiss her on the nose and turn to head into my office.
I hear her stomp her foot like a toddler before turning tail and walking away with a huff. I haven't been in the mood to touch her sexually since finding out that mutt from The Pack of the Moon. Crystal, I think her name was.
"Bane, come to the office," I linked him as I took a seat. Waiting for him to arrive, I start looking over the papers that have been stacked on my desk.
A knock sounds at my door roughly 5 minutes after I called for Bane.
"Come in," I say.
Bane walks in while running his hand through his hair.
"What's up?" He asks almost nervously.
"We need to plan a way to get my so-called mate away from her pack and into the secret dungeon," I nonchalantly respond without looking up.
Maverick growls in my head, "You're making a mistake you will come to regret."
"Shut up, Mav, you don't know what's best for us and this pack," I snap back inwardly.
Fucking wolf thinking his mate would better us. What a weak though.
"Start figuring out a good way to get that done."

*Banes POV*
I nod to what I was just told as I turn to leave the office. He'll come to regret this, I know he will. I just don't know how to make him see that. He hasn't been the same since what happened with his mother. She was like an aunt to me, so her death was hard for me, granted, not as hard as it was for him, but it was still horrible to lose her. They would be so disappointed in the path he was going down.
Lost in thought, I nearly ran headfirst into Katherine.
"Sorry," I muttered.
Katherine looked at me with slightly darkened eyes, typically a sign of a challenge to ranked wolves, considering she wasn't of rank, just the daughter of our top warrior. She wasn't bad looking per se, but she wasn't Luna material in my opinion. She'd end up running this pack down with her lack of desire to protect others. What if Luna couldn't protect herself if something were to happen?
"You should at least have the manners to bow when you apologize to me Bane," she sneered. "I'm your future Luna, I don't care if you're the Beta, but you better start showing me some damn respect before I have Dustin start making you show it."
Resisting the urge to eye roll at her, I turned on my heel and kept heading to the border of the pack to check in with the warriors on duty.
"Don't walk away from me," she all but screamed as she stomped her feet like a toddler.
*A few days later*
Dustin is still insisting on a way to get this girl away from her pack and has had me gathering whatever information he could get on her. So far, we know her name is Crystal, the daughter of the alpha. She had shifted for the first time not too long ago, but on the night of their party, she collapsed and ended up in the hospital. There has been no word on what her wolf looks like, which is strange, but I'm sure we will know soon enough what her wolf looks like.
I hear the door open as Dustin barges in.
"Any new information?" He questioned without any form of patience.
"Nothing besides what we have found out so far. I still don't see why you don't just go and tell her she's your mate. You don't need to kidnap her."
A deep growl shakes the room as Dustin rushes forward, his hand pressing tightly around my throat as I'm slammed into the wall.
"I already told you!" He snarled through clenched teeth.
"I'm saying it would be easier to get her that way! She'd have no reason to distrust that you want to throw her in the dungeon if you go and claim her! Think about it," I manage to say. That seems to get him out of the rage he was on as a sly smirk appeared across his face.
"Finally, a good idea!" He laughs in a chilling manner as he steps away from me.
My hand by instinct, goes towards my throat to rub where he just attempted to strangle me. This is going to get me killed one way or another.
She seems like such a sweet girl, and I hate this to be her fate. Hopefully, his wolf will be able to make him think straight once the bond kicks in.
